Nightfall Exodite vs Seer

Post by Konrad » Tue Jan 25, 2011 11:57 pm

In the acrid desert all is still. A dusty band of exiles stand waiting. Long coats and wide brimmed hats shield them from the blazing twin suns. Gas filtering bandannas mask their faces. All causually check and re-check weapons. The stillness is disturbed by a shimmer in the air before them, a ripple in reality, like sunlight reflected on ocean waves.

“Right on schedule” mutters the leader and spits into the dust.

Emerging from the distortion is a coetire of Seer Warlocks. They glide soundlessly forward, as if their feet were repelled by the grit and dirt below.

“That’s far enough!” the Exodite boss calls out. The rest of his coetire straighten and take a step forward, boots crunching gravel. Winged scavengers circle and screech overhead. Hands slowly drift closer to holsterd pistols.

Last to emerge a Farseer, he wordlessly addresses the leader.

“Your Faction has resisted all attempts to properly monitor this, such as it may be called, world. To gauge the effects of your activities here, we require information, information you stubbornly withold. This indicates secrects, and secrets leave poisonous holes in the fabricof Destiny. We ask you one last time to stop interfering with our efforts. "

One of the Exodites answers, “You calling our planet a poisonous hole?” Another chimes in, “Well, he’s not all wrong at that, is he?” The Seers flinch at the ensuing raucous laughter, as one might flinch at a suprising, unpleasant odor.

Quietly the boss drawls, “Now you listen. We just want to be left alone, and that’s no secret to anybody. You can just pack up your spy drones and mind control nanites and stick them where….”

A pair of Warlocks flanking the Farseer vanish, reapearing instantly in the midst of the Exodites, obsidian blades draw, burning with balefire. They swing, the Exodites draw. The causialties are the aforementioned Warlocks, twin holes burned through them by the Exodite leader’s twin pistols.

“Knife to a gunfight. Thought you boys were supposed to be smart.”

But this bravado is misplaced. One Farseer levels his weapon and an Exodite is caught, frozen perhaps for eternity, in a gout of crystal fire. The Farseer makes a slight gesture and another gunslinger simply…disapears. The Exodites take cover. The Warlocks circle around their Farseer.

This stalemate is interupted by a strange thrumming sound. The desert breeds many predators. The Exodites have been prudent enough to tame them. From the dunes behind the Exodites, a pride of feline hunters pounce on the Warlocks. There is a flurry of action, as the Warlocks pit unearthly blades against bestial talon and fang.

The Farseer levitates above the melee. If he sought saftey, he fails. The pride has a master. The master has a sniper rifle. With a crack, a flechete opens a tiny hole in the Farseer’s helm and sends him spinning into the dust.

“Pow. Right between the eyes. Didn’t see that one comin’ did you?” remarks the boss with a sardonic smile.

All know the Engagement is finished. The desert air glimmers again and the Seer Coiterie withdraw back across the void.
In the distance, a lone figure longrifle in hand, stands and waves. With dorsal spines humming in answer to their master’s unheard summons, the pride bounds away and both disapear into the distance.

The desert discloses one more surprise. A patch of nearby sand begins to vibrate. There is a low, harsh grinding sound. The sound gets louder and louder and the sand explodes with a deafening roar. Out of the dust, a huge scarred metal cone breaches the desert surface. A small hatchway opens near it’s base.

“Alright then. Mount up.” , the Exodite boss orders somewhat tiredly. With another roar the strange vehicle dives, burying the Exodites and their secrets, if indeed they had any to begin with, beneath the shifting sands.
