Specialist Games.... We hardly knew ye.

Copied from an Epic Blog:
THE DEATH OF SPECIALIST GAMES

Well guys,

This is it. The last mournful days of a truly amazing thing called Specialist Games.

Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust…

In case you have missed it, GW are cutting all metal production as they switch over to fine cast, and have let it be known that once stocks of Epic, BFG, Necromunda, Warmaster, Mordheim, Inquisitor run out, then they are gone for good. The source is multiple people, including me, on the Taccoms forum having rung GW and having it confirmed by Customer Services and the GW warehouse staff. Hopefully the communities will continue as strong, but without models being sold it will be difficult to bring in new blood. Perhaps the alternative manufacturers will step up to fill the void.

It also somewhat annoyingly spells the death knell of my putative £100 armies series – given that people will be unable to buy the models at all!

I have put in a final panic buy order for some things I need to complete my fleets / armies - nabbing the last Rogue Trader Cruiser like it was the last chopper coming out of Saigon. I hope everyone got everything they needed, or can find replacements elsewhere.
Forge World are also stopping production of non-40K, non-WFB items from the sound of things. There has also been talk of ALL of the GW collectors ranges going OOP as well.

Yup. I mean, the writing has been on the wall for years and years now*, so I'm not surprised, really.

*Really, ever since the current Catch-22 distribution / GW-store policy was put into place more-or-less immediately after Specialist Games as a thing was created. "We don't carry Specialist Games in stores because nobody plays them. Nobody plays them because we don't carry them."

I'm going to have to find the cash to buy some Epic infantry sprues before supplies run out, though. Last I checked, GWJ still had 'em in stock.

I wonder if now is the time to get that inquisitor scale space marine I've been wondering about for ages. I'm not really into marines, but it's a nice mini and would make a good "token space marine" painty project...

I might do the same. I don't see any epic games in my future and I have quite a fe miniatures.

I guess it is time for me to buy my Epic army! (at least the things I need from FW)

I've been working on running an Epic event right here in Nagoya at least once a year - next one should be in August!
