Fair play to GW, they seem to be paying attention to social media these days, and have (quite sensibly) provided an official response to the debacle that was the release of SW:A

https://www.warhammer-community.com/201 ... s-support/

Incidentally, I actually messaged them about this on Facebook a few days ago, and to my surprise they actually responded with a respectably polite and thorough (albeit necessarily vague) answer, which in a nutshell said "thanks for asking, we're aware of the problem and are working on a solution - watch this space". Could've just ignored me, but didn't. Tip o the hat to their social media team.

Anyway, tl:dr - looks like there should be a rulebook along soon, which is good.

The price one pays for not having a marketing department, I s'pose...

Will they be selling just rulebooks, or do you have to get the whole set?

Sounded like rulebooks only will be a thing:

“We will be making the rules for this game are more widely available, very soon.

Not only that, but following requests we’ve received throughout this week, our rules team are also looking to expand the number of playable factions in the game.

We’ll bring you news on exactly how and when you’ll be able to get ahold of the rules outside of the box, and the new factions, just as soon as we can.”

Hmm, apparently if I throw a thousand yen Ring Tail's way for a box o' cultists I'll be well set to field a little Chaos strike team. Nice!

(Odd that Tyranid teams are Warrior Only, No Gaunts Allowed.)

GW announced the rules alone will be available for pre-order on April 22nd and also be available in digital format.
They'll include all the forces in the PDF as well as Adeptus Sororitas and Inquisition.

Digital rules are a plus, nice! Looks like GW may be getting some of my money.

Aye - I'd be up for sending some cash GW's way once these rules come out.

So, I played a game of Shadow Wars today against Spevna. It was my Wyches against his IG vets. Whilst bearing in mind this was after about 3 1/2 hours of rum and coke on both sides, honestly, it could've gone better for the IG. Points to note in terms of game play include:

If you're a shooty gang, use overwatch. Srlsy. Spev didn't, and had a bad time of things as a result.
Watch Dark Eldar. They have M6 and I6. This means if you are within 12" they can detect you, charge you, and butcher your ass in CC. Even if you're behind a wall or summat.
Shooting will knock people down, but CC will kill ' em dead.
Overwatch. Use it.
If you're a shooty gang, play stayaway. If you're not. Get as close as possible whilst still using "hide"
Use Overwatch.

I think things would have gone differently had Spev's gang been Spess Mahvines or similar, but IG (even vets) at WS3 and Sv 6+ were just not happening against Dark Eldar. They may only be WS4, but almost always they were on +1 for the charge, as well as weapons giving them re-rolls to wound and suchlike.

So, aye, Dark Eldar vs IG in close confines ended pretty much as one might imagine. One to remember, methinks.

Man, this thing, combined with the way I collect 40K models for Advanced Space Crusade, is pretty dangerous.

"Hmm, a box of Genestealer Hybrids gives me both some models I want for Advanced Space Crusade and [calculates briefly] a very comfortable Shadow Wars kill team!"

"Hmm, making rules for Skitarii for ASC would be pretty easy too..."

6000yen for the rulebook! Boo! GW, booooo! You were doing so well, too...

I'll ponder the merits of getting a uk one (25quid), but 6000en (=41.50gbp) is taking the piss...
