An unboxing, and what an unboxing it is.

(Templates!)

That... is a very deep box. "Most expensive boxed game they've ever done," though - some political capital is going to have to be built with Fort Knox at the Laurence household.

For 8 models? (Plus scenery, some card stock and the rulebook).
How many old Titans can you get on eBay for that?

While it's true that the old plastic beetleback titans are best described as "hilariously small" and/or "extremely ugly" next to the new ones, the answer to that question is "something like 20".

Yeah, I think that price tag is going to enable me to stick with crusty old Epic, purty as the new warlords may be.

The core box is 40,300 yen on Ring-tail. 8,100 yen for the book and 15,000 yen for a Warlord.

Yup - 175GBP looks to be the official retail price. Sadly it pretty much prices me out of the game - to be quite fair, the warlords are almost knight-sized in the end, but a game based around playing a maniple of 3-4 titans plus supporting knights, where a single titan costs 15,000 yen, ends up being a sum of money I could get a lot more hobby bang for invested elsewhere.

And here I am, bit by the titan bug after all.

It helps, a great deal, that the Grand Master edition was... not a great way to get into the game, and better, more cost-effective points of entry are now available. 2 warlords, 6 knights, a bunch of terrain and the rules set for 40,000 yen is simultaneously a) very expensive, b) a great value and a huge discount on the individual things in the box, and c) in need of quite a few extra purchases to actually start playing the game in a Matched-Play kind of way. :?

On t'other hand, you can get the rules set (which isn't just the book, but also has cards, counters, command terminals, dice, some plastic objectives and such - and the book is typical FW quality) for 8100 yen, and a titan battlegroup (warlord, reaver, and 2 warhounds) for 24,000 yen - basically giving you a free Reaver and literally everything you need for a solid, street-legal, tactically-interesting 1,250-point core force*. Still not exactly cheap, but more than enough to get you playing - and it's really hard to oversell just how lovely and chunky the models are.

*All in all, I've got about 1750 points now, enough for a biggish game, and have 5 titans and 4 cerastus knights (plus the rules set). That would've cost me 50,000 yen if I'd paid the list price for everything, which I didn't. A lot, but it's basically all I'll need unless I get deep enough into the game to try out other kinds of maniples and their special rules.

So, I'm in. It helps that the rules look really well-designed, interesting, and fun, and that the "bang for my buck" I mention in my previous post lo these many moons ago doesn't really have anywhere else to be invested, as my 40K and AoS armies are all pretty mature.

While I'd be more than happy to play against you with your own stuff (if you actually have 2 playable forces?), I really cant see myself dropping that kind of money on a new game at this point. Lovely models, I agree entirely, but I just dont have that kind of expendable hobby cash just now (nor will I for the foreseeable future...) Still, if you got the minis, I got the dice...

Yeah, that's my expectation for 90% of people - I have a well-documented weak spot for the scale after all.

Even I probably won't have two full maniples anytime soon, but fortunately, from interviews with the designers and people talking about playing, it looks like the game is designed explicitly with even one-on-one titan duels being potentially interesting* - in the design stage, they still thought the models would be all resin, so expected most people might have one or maybe two. So smallish games with what I have are a pretty straightforward possibility.

*Ironically for the Grand Master edition, titan duels between two warlords with long-range firepower (like, say, missile launchers and dual volcano cannons) on a sparse-ish table (like, say, one covered with just the contents of the terrain in the GM edition) is probably the least interesting matchup...
