][ Inquisitor ][ The Battle for the Emperor's Soul

Post by Primarch » Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:26 am

You have been told of the Inquisition: that shadowy organization which defends Mankind and the Emperor from the perils of heresy, possession, alien dominance and rebellion.

You have been told that the Inquisition are the ultimate defence against the phantoms of fear and terror which lurk in the darkness between the stars.

You have been told that the Inquisition are the bright saviours in an eclipse of evil: purest and most devoted warriors of the Emperor.

You have been told that the Inquisition is united in its cause to rid the galaxy of any threat, from without or within.

Everything you have been told is a lie!

It's quite possible you've heard of Inquisitor in one form or another, the term Inq28 gets floated around a lot, though you could be under the impression that Inq28 is a style of painting/modelling rather than an actual game.

Inquisitor was released about 20 years ago and was a narrative driven skirmish game using 54mm models. After the initial release of minis, GW quietly shifted it over to their Specialist Games section where it got a little support from the writers and modellers in the studio who played it. While some players liked the scale, the minis were expensive and having to scratch build larger terrain prevented it from really taking off. The players who liked the game figured that the best thing to do was to scale it down to 28mm and use their existing 40K models, hence Inq28.

While the rules can be quite complex (looking more like an RPG than a wargame), they make for some very gritty games. Each model is a character with unique skills and abilities. Damage is allocated to limbs, body and head, with varying effects depending on the amount of damage dealt. A flesh wound to the arm might apply an aiming penalty, a hard shot to the leg could knock your guy prone, and a bolter round to the head will likely kill your character on the spot.

It can be a tough game to balance, but it's a lot of fun when you get it right. I'm keen to give it a try, hopefully I can drag a few others into it.

It bears some similarities to an RPG, but it is still a skirmish game. It works best with a GM and uses d100's among other things. However, your force will usually consist of 3-4 models of varying types and abilities.

I'm happy to run a game at this month's game day if you want to try it.

You can use your own minis if you want to, but I'll need to prep beforehand. Could you pick out say 3-4 figures to form an inquisitorial (or heretical, or anything really) retinue? Ideally you'll want a leader type and 2-3 bodyguards, assistants, or miniony folks. NO matines though. A marine with a knife is capable of chopping most other characters in half in one hit, they really live up to the fluff in this game. Likewise, no power armour and one bolter max.
Send me a PM with a list of what minis you're thinking to use, their equipment and a brief description. (pictures are optional, but not necessary)

E.g.
Image
Private Helsam, Merovian 12th. - All round fighter.
Lasgun, Flak Armour, Grenades, Knife, Throwing Knives.

That might have been an Australianism.

Thanks Primarch. Jus and I really had a good time with our first adventure of Inquisitor! I had the privilege of using Prim's Imperial Guardsman Airborne. Unfortunately the Private died to a drugged-up lunatic with delusions that the Emperor will not live again. :D A rifle butt proved handier than we imagined though.
