Re: Eldar are here.
Just seen a few pics of pages from the book here and there.
It's all a bit here, there and everywhere, or at least that is the feeling I get. I dunno, maybe I just haven't let it all sink in. The Guardians have the same WS, BS and I as aspect warriors currently on the path of the warrior. OK...I guess I can maybe think of some plausible reason , but then how about making Banshees and Scorpions WS 5? But they want to sell the new kits of Wraithblades etc, so it would make sense not to give the other aspects too much to compete with those I guess. Sorry Mike, looks likes the girls are still not likely to be on the table any time soon. Scorpions? Well, they do have infiltrate + stealth but the mandiblasters are ST 3 now.
There are invulnerable saves all over the place, a something shield, a blah blah shield or a thingy ma bob shield...OK I guess they have lots of shields. If I was an Eldar though, I'd just ask for the one with the best protection please. 'You're a what, sorry? Phoenix Lord? You want a what now? A Force Shield? Nah mate, sorry. Ol' Asurmen took the last one, the greedy bugger. You'll have to take it up with him..or from him. I heard Baharroth became all buddy buddy with him and got himself a nice wee shield, maybe you could try that." Phoenix Lords have some nifty rules, but no Inv save for all those points. Probably be better off with the Avatar, he's still a good deal and can now buy: Night Vision, Crushing Blow, Fast Shot, Monster Hunter, Marksman's Eye and Disarming Strike.
The Wave Serpent is more expensive? Oh, I see, we can make penetrating hits become glances. Or we can turn the shield into a weapon like Spock and Kirk did with their communicators and blast the enemy with D6 S7 AP - Assault, Pinning and Ignore Cover shots. Cool and all, but I'd rather have an 'assault vehicle'. At least the Brightlance is not expensive anymore, divide previous codex price by 9, along with the Scatter LAser and Star Cannon - all the same cost, except the missile launcher which is 10 points more than all the others.
There certainly is a lot in the book, and some of it is powerful and has good synergy possibilities, it just feels a bit all over the place still but maybe once I get the book myself I can get a better grasp of it. Oh yeah, and jet bikes are still ACE, and cheaper
*Edit - This was quite a good perspective. http://yriel.blogspot.jp/2013/05/the-sk ... l-not.html

Re: Eldar are here.
There's a good deal of discussion of the pros and cons all over the interwebs, but my take on it is that it's a new book. It's not a rehash of the old one - things are genuinely different and people will have to change how they play. A lot, in some cases. Time will tell, but speaking personally I don't mind - a bit of freshness is no bad thing.

Having what amounts to rending on all your basic infantry guns sure seems like a plus point to me.

Re: Eldar are here.
I keep reading how crap banshees are. Then I look at the rules and work out the details and....
Damn dudes, but they really, really suck so bad now it's just not funny.
They have T3 and 4+Sv. (as before)
Eldar have no assault vehicles, so the girls are going to have to run up the field. (It's quicker than being in a serpent)
They are still only S3
Masks now -5 to the enemy initiative, but...
They have no plasma grenades. So they hit last if the enemy are in cover. Which they will be, cos they will see the banshees coming. Oh, and they'll shoot the banshees on over watch as they charge in, too.
Just...horrible. Storm guardians are oodles better. They get plasma grenades, by the way. Yes, the militia get plasma grenades, but the I-dedicate-my-life-to-close-assault-and-shutting-down-the-enemy unit doesn't.
It won't be a terrible problem, as scorpions still seem ok and and harlies are still harlies, plus we get the shiny wraithchoppers, but still, it just seems like a terrible waste of potential for banshees. Surely the mask should just count as grenades and maybe even prevent over watch cos it burns out your nervous system and stuff?
Sorry ladies, but I suspect you'll be seeing the inside of the miniature case for some time.

All the stuff the Banshees lost the Scorpions got.
On the other hand the Wknight is looking more and more as a bluff.

Re: Eldar are here.
I dunno about the scorps - I do need to do a detailed read, but their mandiblasters got mega nerfed. Used to be +1 attack (at S4 or 6 for exarch) now is a S3 attack at I10 stage. Boo hiss, say I.

Re: Eldar are here.
Yup the mandiblaster is down but look at the Exarch. You can get the Claw now that it's not unwieldy and specialist so at I6 you get 2 attacks base + 1 for extra CC weapon+ 1 for charge at S6 (S8 if you get the +1S power) at AP2. Not bad at all.

Re: Eldar are here.
If only we had legions at our disposal I think that is Necrons speciality But we got the biggest robot! Ah ha! ...which could go into a fit of rage or bout of depression at any moment being controlled by one dead Eldar and the twin he left behind. These are the Days of our Lives.me_in_japan wrote:

Having looked over the book page pics, yet again , I think I am happy with most of it. Still an expensive army points wise, and that should be so, but now with lots of tricks and synergies. Honestly, there is so much you can do and try to pull off. Sure, your plan may fall to pieces, but if it comes together, even Hannibal will be lighting a cigar for you.
Troop Jet bikes with warlock to give extra conceal, an extra run and shoot, flesh rending weapons, now that is fantastic!
A big unit of Guardians with an Avatar to back em up, protecting an objective, are annoying and not to be charged willy nilly. Oh yeah, an Avatar that can disarm an opponent in a challenge!! Well, that is going to be a pain for the enemy to see their powerfist or instant death sword go by by.
Dark Reapers, cheaper, slow and purposeful, and with an option to fire ST8 missiles and a range finder that prevents enemy flyers from having a jink save.
The Wave Serpent IF its shield work and you have all the new powers and tricks to minus leadership, could be quite effective due to being able to pin enemy units.
Exarch powers are quite powerful, as are the Phoenix Lords powers. At least the exarchs can get a 4+ invul save.
Lots of trickery! Lots of fun.
I am still not overly keen on the big robot. I just think it is more a super heavy kind of thing, not to mention the price. The Flyers, like the Dark Eldar, are all made of glass, so they will probably not stay on the board long. The Hemlock Wraithfighter with its 12" 'Terrify' psyker power is silly but fun. Be afraid, be very afraid
