Just to clarify: "the shooty ones" = blue riot cop looking ones.

The shooty ones should be the ones with the big drum fed guns. The riot cops with their baton/ram thing and shield are the fighty ones.

It's a baton? I thought it was a grenade launcher...

Hmm... could be. They are supposed to be assault troops according to the rumours, but I haven't seen any rules for them yet.

I don't care for the new Shooty Ogryn either. Maybe it's the paint job, but the muscles just look wrong. Reminds me of the Minoutaurs everyone groused about a few years back. I've been sculpting a bit recently, and the arms don't look much better than what I did myself. The riot cop ones are unique at least. I sort of like the Bane-fanboy gasmask one.
Scribor makes some hilarious Ogryn. I'd get those before these guys. Wouldn't doubt they are cheaper too.
We'll probably be seeing some wicked cool conversions from FB Orges in the near future. I bet all the 3rd party manufacturers will start pumping out "not-Ripper guns" too.

Hasslefree do a nice not-Ogryn, may not fit in with GW but it's always nice to have options.

Edit-just looking at the current codex, which has been on the shelf for a bit. It seems according to it, and net wisdom (oxymoron) that Ogryns have not really been considered worth using previously. I suppose new Ogryns might be worth taking this time, if they want to sell them and all?

Conventional wisdom is they are waaaay too many points (40-odd?) for what they do on the board.
You'd think GW would have a codex creep formula worked out by now. "Reduce points cost by 5-10%, add new special rule, increase retail price 10%-15%...." I mean the math is not that difficult.

One rather major design difference is the open turret. That's a bit annoying, since the crewman won't match the rest of my army.

I guess if you don't use Cadians that could be a problem, yeah. Mind you, tank crew and artillerymen often wear a different style of uniform to the infantry, so you may be able to get away with it. Or just close the turret with plasticard.
