Ancient Romans

Post by Primarch » Sat Aug 20, 2011 7:51 am

Warlord Games are having a special sale for August only with a lot of their ancient romans (and Celts, Dacians and so forth) included. Their rule set called Hail Caesar - which is also usable with other historical periods up through to the middle ages - looks like a good solid game.
Ashmie and I have already discussed getting into this, and with the WG sale, I think I might pick up some boxes. I just thought I would give people the heads up and see if anyone else was interested?

Cheers
P.

I have some interest. I've always been a really big geek for classical warfare. I figure everyone is becoming the romans though... ? Of course some of the best fights were between Roman factions. :)

My real issue is that the timing for this is terrible for me. I want to buy, paint and play this era of historic miniatures, but I'm already inundated with painting and hobby items. So, I think in the end I will have to convince myself otherwise.

Sorry.

My first choice was Romans, but I figure I'm actually going to go with Celts. Hordes of warpaint wearing (and very little else), sword wielding, chariot riding nutters sounds like fun. Plus flesh is easy to paint quickly.

Warlord have just put the first army book up for pre-order.
It contains no less than 63 playable armies, covering Biblical (e.g. Egypt, Assyria, Babylon) and Classical forces (Romans, Celts, Greeks). They are planning a second book covering Dark Age and Medieval forces later in the year.

I'll have to order a copy. :D

I always liked Troy, it might be fun to play the greeks! Though I am sure there would be some rule about being susceptible to bribes of giant statues made of wood - just reminded me of the giant wooden bunny rabbit from The Holy Grail :D
