Prussian Landwehr. Winter project 2011/12. Review.

Post by ashmie » Sun Oct 28, 2012 6:21 am

This was my project for winter 2011/12.
Helped out greatly by the army painter dip.
I assembled 3 units of middle to large Landwehr 1 unit of skirmish Landwehr and one mixed order of Prussian line infantry. 2 command on horse.
All in all I really enjoyed putting these together and have gamed half a dozen times this year with them.
They have had mixed results but on mass the Prussians hold their own even with the unreliable rule. Fielding big units is the key with their 4 wounds and 4 dice for shooting they can prove difficult to budge.
They have played against France as well as Great Britain.

I recommend Black Powder to anyone who enjoys historical and wants a nicely paced rule light battle. The game of Gentlemen. :thankyou

Can't say as the whole historical thing appeals to me much, but I can certainly appreciate the spectacle of the massed infantry unit battle. Those look like a nice painting project well executed. Qudos for planning something like that and sticking to your guns and getting it finished. Carry on, sergeant - that is all. :)

Nice work. Your little men showed great stoicism holding that fort against combined French assaults. I and Marechal de Camp will try to remember the lesson of the day, the Prussians will not be moved by musketry alone!

I hope you think about dabbling in some horses or artillery next, but of course the serried ranks already look very strapping. :)
