Flames of War 3rd Edition Feb. 2012

Post by Mike the Pike » Thu Dec 22, 2011 10:59 am

Fresh in my inbox this afternoon, Battlefront announces the launch of Flames of War 3rd Edition in February 2012. I didn't know that they were even working on it :o

Still getting a handle on 2nd Edition and a bit miffed at having to buy a new rule book, well fear not. Battlefront will be giving away a FREE handy sized version of the new rules to ALL existing owners of the 2nd Ed. book. That's right, a FREE copy of the new rulebook.

Just in case you think this is just a lovely sounding rumour, fear not, it is straight from the GM's mouth...

All I can say is WOW! Yet another company showing GW the way to do things. Apparently they will be giving away the equivalent of a T-34's weight in books! The video even has the GM clearly stating that the new rules will in no way invalidate any of the existing army books. Sweet.

I was also mighty impressed by the Russian ready-made terrain that they showed in the video. I shall have to invest in that Orthodox church methinks!

While I'm still by no means about to start playing FOW, I have to say hats off to em for their customer service. Free rulebooks for existing customers is pure gold. The new Egyptian style terrain is also really pretty nice. If I had a khemri or 'cron army I'd be looking at it very seriously indeed. Even without a themed army, it'd look nice on any desert type table.

much respec' to the battlefront team.

And just to cap off a pretty awesome year for FOW, this too...

Whatever caused them to go their separate ways seems to have been resolved. Just in time for the release of 3rd edition. :D

yeah, I noticed that, too. (I get the maelstrom newsletter). I agree - looks like maelstrom have seen that the light at the end of the tunnel is all that shiny golden money that battlefront can bring em. Fair enough, though. Business is business. It's also mildly interesting to note that the maesltrom update uses the words " we have apologised" which would indicate that they blame themselves for the break down in communication.

Cool, so I can trade in the rulebook I have where the binding fell out on day one and get a new one for free. Sweet!

Pure brilliance. Perhaps that's not my last post after all, oh go on you've twisted my arm it's made of rubber.
I wonder if I will trade the old one in or just buy the new one. I liked the introduction and history in the current hardback. He said they weren't leaving anything out though.
I plan to make this one of my main games in 2012. Along with Black Powder and the usual suspects of course.
No time for Cutlass yet but I'm hoping to have my Pirates and Flames of War done for the Blitz. Holidays are here again, get painting.

Wow that is wonderful news to hear. While I agree with MtP that new rules can be a bummer too it probably won't change too many things either. Anyway, at the least it may level the playing field between experienced and less experienced players.

More info on the coming of 3rd edition.

BTW I have sent a mail on our behalf, regarding the new edition hand-over. Who actually has a copy of the rule book? Which one do you have? The large hard back? The pocket size one from 'Open Fire'? Both?
