Is it possible to get into this with a British parratrooper squad. How many modles would that be?
I'd like to get into this lark. If I'm going to play violent death and destruction games like 40k I may as well play the real setting.

Yeah, the British Paras got released fairly recently along with a book covering the battles they were involved in.ashmie wrote:Is it possible to get into this with a British parratrooper squad. How many modles would that be?

Oh, and Brits kick ass in FoW just ask Pikey and his Huns.

Hey Ash,
Good to read that you have turned to the dark side...oops, I mean decided to play FOW too.
At the moment we have been playing 1750pts games which seems to be the standard. The Airborne company is the best place to start with Paras as it gives you all the mandatory units in one go (The HQ and two combat platoon) plus an extra one. You then have to decide what kind of support units you want i.e. mortars, anti-tank guns, tanks etc. Then it's all on.

Re: What excatly is Flames of War?
One last thing:
FOW is played using 7 basic scenarios. Most of the scenarios have rules concerning reserves for the attacker/defender or both. In these scenarios, you have to keep "at least half" of your units off the board at the start of the game. Therefore, it's a good idea to aim for an even number of platoons. If you have an odd number the greater portion will be off the board. It's not a huge advantage/disadvantage but it something to consider when creating your army.
We look forward to seeing you up in Nagoya sometime, or we may even sally forth into Mie.
Cheers
Mike

Re: What excatly is Flames of War?
Thanks, I really like the sound of it so far.
For me the attraction would be recreating the battles that actually took place. How about D day minus 1 scenario at Pegasus Bridge. By the sound of it Stu has a load of British rifles that could team up with my Parras for this. We could play the scenario where Major Howard has to hold Pegasus Bridge until relieved by the regular army who joined them after the D day landings. It might make a good game, although in relality they had to hold that bridge for several days.
I think I'll go for tank support for my parras. You can't beat tanks. The model tanks for fow look great too.

Check the D-Day Minus 1 book before you buy anything. You will probably have a limited selection of vehicles and units for Paras.ashmie wrote:I think I'll go for tank support for my parras. You can't beat tanks. The model tanks for fow look great too.
A 2 on 2 game could be cool.

Only if we were looking to recreate the entire thing, which is beyond the scope of even Pikey's collection. Brits vs Huns is fine for a lot of the D-Day battles.Admiral-Badruck wrote:you will need Americans for a proper D-day...
