It was really more of maelstroms last-minute-trap than anything by GW. They are trying to stop us buying from Maelstrom/Wayland remember.Admiral-Badruck wrote:you guys feel right in to the GW trap you they kicked you in the nuts and you bought more of their product... well done.. next time the might cut off a nut... and then try and sell it back to you ...![]()
I bought the Dark Eldar stuff I had planned to buy and that was it. No last minute splurging on any other GW stuff. I had over 300 pounds to spend and with it I bought:
Dark Eldar Razorwing, Talos, Venom and 2 boxes of Scourges (I have been planning to buy this since it was announced. In fact I originally wanted 2 of everything but screw that
In the future, I will be purchasing more Warmachine, Malifaux, WW2 and Spartan-games models from the UK and no GW stuff. Heck, Ashmie and I are going to start on Napoleonics soon.

Re: the factions
As the Cygnar representative, I`ll just add, "Don`t pick Cygnar unless you love an uphill battle". Cygnar - as the other Dave pointed out - is a mixed arms force with generally more shooting than other factions. However, once you read about the actual distances ranged weapons fire you`ll soon realize how weak shooting is in WarmaHordes (barring a few exceptions). Cygnar has mostly mediocre `jacks, a few sucky ones and the Stormclad (which wrecks face). Our units are probably the worst and most overpriced in the entire Warmahordes line (look at Trencher Infantry and Long Gunners to get what I mean here) with the exception of the Black 13th ( a character unit). Cygnar has some useful solos, but most are overpriced (Finn, Laddermore, Mechanics) and none of them stomp face like Mage Hunter Assassins, Manhunters, Banelord Tarter Sauce, or Unkillable Vilmon. The only real good point about Cygnar is our warcasters. Every faction has a few weaker ones and we do too (Kraye, Darius, pStryker, pHaley), but we also have some of the best; namely Siege, eStryker, eCaine and The Pole Dancer (eHaley). On the otherhand, we do have a lot of cool-looking stuff. I chose Cygnar based on their look and the fact that no one else in our gaming group wanted to play them.

Eek! After reading about Cygnar, it really puts me off them. I can see what u mean about ranges. But I also noticed some combos to improve shooting power (but not range). Has ur opinion changed since this post Dangiunius?

Re: the factions
Well, I wrote that shortly after I started playing regularly and I was losing a lot then (as most people do when they start WMH). Also, I originally bought a large Cygnar lot from a friend. It turns out that he was mainly unloading a lot of stuff he didn`t intend to use any more...mainly things that were mighty in WarMachine mkI but had been nerfed a lot in mk II. So, many of my original lists really struggled. But, I have since plugged in most of those holes and my army is just fine. I beat Cryx (pAsphxzious) in a 42 point battle yesterday with pStryker.
Keep in mind, many of the things I wrote in the above post are still true:
1. Cygnar`s strength is often in their warcaster.
2. Our weakness is in our melee units and our solos.
3. Don`t plan on going full-shooty - you need melee jacks/units (which is why #2 above is tough)
4. All the above you can work with and will overcome with enough practice...my only real gripe with Cygnar is our low damage output - especially from units and solos. We need warjacks to break heavy armor and do lots of damage; Cryx, Khador, and Menoth don`t need to rely on warjacks for this. This is why I referred to it as "an uphill battle". Cygnar often has to "chip away at the stone" - mind you, we hit that stone as accurately or more accurately than other factions, but we need a lot of little hits to achieve what other factions can do in a few big hits.
@DungeonLord. Keep in mind you are buying a large Cygnar lot of stuff that someone doesn`t need anymore. You are (possibly) starting fresh. If you looked at my "starting off with Cygnar" thread, you will know exactly what to start off with to do well and wreck face with the swans.

Re: the factions
Thanks for the post. As long as it IS possible and Cygnar is not a total point sink with very little chance of winning, I will give it a go to find good combos.
No offence, but I am purposefully not reading your Cygnar thread 'cause I want to figure it out myself. It's like knowing what will happen in a movie before u watch it. Kinda ruins the fun if u skip the journey.

Re: the factions
Now, I have only played against Cygnar twice, both times vs Danguinius and with the same caster on both sides, but I never felt that they were a pushover. Both games were challenging and could have gone either way with just a couple of dice rolls.
I dont find Cygnar as overtly threatening as Cryx, but that is more to do with the sheer amount of wacky abilities that Cryx models generally have. Likewise, I am sure people will say the same thing about Khador (due to our stupidly tough 'Jacks). However, I would never dismiss Cygnar as they do seem to have a good balance for speed, power, shooting and defence. I guess the challenge is in accepting that your opponent will probably have some advantage over you and instead focussing on their disadvantages. E.g. Cryx is fast but soft, Khador may be tough but it is very slow etc.
You are right, figuring it all out for yourself is better than being told what to do. However, when spending lots of money on expensive new toys it is always a good idea not to buy stuff you dont need.
