This new gaming system from Fantasy Flight looks interesting:

Star Wars is ok I guess...don't hit me. #ducks for cover#.
FFG usually have very high standards of production for artwork and layout, so you can expect the books to look awesome.

Yes and yes.

I've heard good things about the game, although it is an FFG game with a similar design to WHFRP 3rd edition, and all that entails.

Star Trek is soooo much better than Star Wars.

Counter-point: Voyager

Which is to say, both properties have such huge amounts of material for them at this point that you can find good stuff and garbage. The CG Clone Wars cartoon or Empire Strikes Back are right up there with the best Trek has to offer, and Episode 3 and most of the "expanded universe" novels are right down there with the worst parts of Voyager and Enterprise.

Whether you like Star Wars' or Star Trek's take on science fiction (or, if you're a science fiction purist, "science fiction"*) just comes down to taste, I think. I like both, and Babylon 5, and Battlestar Galactica too.

*By which I mean, neither of them are anywhere near hardcore speculative fiction. Wars is explicitly pulp-flavored space opera, Trek still shows its "wagon train to the stars" roots, and neither of them has ever aspired to anything like realistic physics or shown us a spaceship with vectored thrust. :D

I like them both, but it's really apples and oranges.

I do think Star Wars has a darker, grittier universe that would be more fun for roleplaying.

Apparently the intro scenario in Edge of the Empire really emphasizes this too, with Han Solo types escaping from Hutts and stealing starships and such.
