SF urban warfare game photos

Nothing to do with me, I should point out. All the terrain and the vehicles are sold by Antenociti's Workshop.

TW game on G.O.T. Table

(TW is Tomorrow's War, a futuristic skirmish game from Ambush Alley Games, and G.O.T. is Governance of Technology, Antenociti's Workshop's own setting).

The guys in grey armour with the blue and white vehicles are sold by Antenociti's Workshop, as is the other side's hovertank. The guys in dark green are Heavy Infantry from Pig Iron Productions.

That table is even more impressive in real life; I saw it at Salute in London last year. The buildings are made of 3mm foamed PVC and are apparently strong enough to stand on! The streetlights and internal lights all light up, and each floor is individually accessible.

Makes a change from gothic ruins and rock piles, doesn't it? :)

It's from Antenociti's Workshop - same people who make almost everything in those photos.

how incredibly...clean.

its just not right, i tell ya. Where's the goddam aquillas, hmmn?

all very nice, though. I particularly like the multi storey kinda office block looking building towards the end of the series of pics. I also took a shufty at some of the how-to articles. The one on making naturally layered terrain was particularly good.

I have been a fan of Antenocitis for a while. All of the thick, heavy game mats I got for NagoyaHammer were from them. I'm tempted to buy some of their APCs as well, as they look awesome. Its just a matter of having money that isnt earmarked for something else.

Their scenery tutorial http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/news ... -of-flora/ is awesome. Thats the kind of thing that makes me wish I had the time and the patience to do a table that nice.

Very nice! And I agree that it's nice to see something that looks properly "futuristic" for a change.

(And just because I'm an unrelentingly negative nitpicker :oops: I agree with M_I_J about cleanliness. I'm reminded of a comment by Carl Woodrow on his blog Drop Pod - which is pretty cool and you should check it out - that lots of terrain tables look like the street cleaners have been through before the battle begins. Appropriate for this table, but still.)

I think that is more to do with game play than anything else. No-one wants to see their nicely painted models falling down and getting chipped because the table surface is totally uneven. At some point you have to say enough is enough and accept that realistic looking tables cause problems for gaming and that tables which are good for gaming are never going to be totally realistic.

Plus for terrain that people bring to events like Joshin etc high quality stuff ends up getting knocked about and damaged too much to make it that worthwhile.

I like the clean look. I got heartily sick, over the years, of grey ruins and grey rocks and dead grey trees. To the extent that my club's Forgeworld ruins are pink, and my Skyshield Landing pad is blue (to match the old card Firebase and the Necromunda terrain).

The ultramodern, clean look suits the scenario - in that particular case, it's a police action, like the Libyan Embassy seige. 40K terrain seems to take the approach that you've been fighting over the city for years, and everything's blown up. In this instance, the fighting's just begun, so there's been no chance to blow anything up.

It also allows for some interesting special ruels for terrain pieces. Take the stuff I built, for example:

The Universal Exports warehouse is big enough for a small firefight inside, while control of the office unit gives you control of the doors. The ammu-nation is chock-full of guns and ammo, allowing fighters to loot it for better kit - if they can avoid the overwatch fire from the reconditioned wardroid at the back. There's also the opportunity for terrain which blocks firing and movement, but not LOS.

Primarily, though, as I said, I like it because it's very different to the traditional 40K table, and suits games such as Infinity, MERCS and whatever otehr modern or SF skirmish you fancy.
