So there's a 5th faction coming out in August, the Resistance (humans who got left behind when the Scourge invaded Earth) and they look pretty cool:

Half-tracks, hovercraft, and Mad Max-style souped up civilian vehicles, oh my!

That does look very cool. We've got to throw down sometime soon and play a game.

Folks, looks like Dropzone has got cheap:

http://www.hawkwargames.com/collections/the-core-range

PHR and Shaltari starter armies in plastic - 35GBP for a solid 500 points (in a game where 1000 is a good game and 1500 is the "typical" game size). Two boxes, or one box plus a modest selection of resin stuff, will pretty much set you up for life.

(Man, I shoulda waited for PHR. Resisting them at this price point is going to be tough, and I haven't even ever played a game yet.)

So... yeah. I placed an order for a PHR army. Why? Why do I do this?

(The answer is suddenly-affordable giant stompy robots, but still.)

Down in Hiroshima, we`ll run out first game of DzC this Sunday with my (fully painted) UCM taking on Gannon`s PHR. It should be a lot of fun...and we are hoping the other HIroshima wargamers get on board.

Awesome! I'm planning on doing a little demo this Sunday too, using my box set Scourge and PHR forces. Hopefully the purtiness of my minis will draw some people in, heh.

That's great to hear that you guys have started Dropzone in your part of Japan. Hopefully it keeps growing.

Auxryn and I managed to fit in 3 starter box games between the PHR and the Scourge today - good fun, and a real learning experience. I'm ambivalent about just how much of a death trap buildings seem to be, but overall I think the game has a lot of potential. We used a pared-down version of one of the defensive missions for our third go, since it seemed like the smash-and-grab mission in the starter box was a bit punishing for the rather slow PHR, and that worked well too.

Seems like the 500 point-ish starter boxes are a good tool for learning the rules and getting a basic idea of What Not to Do, but maybe not great for really deep tactical experiences. Makes me think I should really push ahead and get 1000 points of each force painted up, heh. Only two or three more battlegroups per force, after all! :D

Dan, did you magnetize your UCM dropships? Job and I were thinking about what the best way to do that might be.

Speaking of which, job, did you want to shoot for a game of DZC at Joshin in November?

I have a 3000 point game of Warhammer lined up with KJ_1066, but I am going to finish my Dropzone Commander army this month. I should be able to play around 1k. Maybe we can play in the afternoon next month or at Zengo in December.
