Some sexiness from gencon: Battleships!

The Scourge one is pretty cool*, which pleases me as they're my fleet of choice, but that PHR ship! Humina-humina-humina!

*Especially since you can tell by looking at the one next to it that they're articulated to undulate like those funky flying bugs from Nausicaa or something. Space trilobites for the win!

Of those (which are all rather lovely) I'm liking the scourge best, but whereforso is the love for the UCM?

The picture I found wasn't so good, and they had that double-size model of their battleship as a kickstarter bolt-on, so I didn't think to put it in.

Here 'tis, though. Looks like it gets the Huge F-Off Missile at least.

Some battleship chat with the Beasts of War guys, and some rather detailed discussion of the newly-painted PHR and Shaltari ships that hadn't been seen yet.

http://www.beastsofwar.com/the-weekende ... -projects/

Beautiful, beautiful ships. Unfortunately they're still a bit soft on shipping news - especially since Hawk Dave said he'd just assembled the models that morning, and that was for photography for the book. (OTOH, this would have been filmed a bit ago, since the models were shown off at Gen Con, so I dunno!)

I know, right? Just get me some spaceships in the mail, already! :o

Edit to add: OK, looks like the Hawk Kremlinologists think the spot was probably filmed in late June sometime the way they're talking about Reconquest Phase 2. So we may still be on track for August shipping, knock on wood.

Another update: Apparently there were printing issues, but everything else is ready to go and pretty much boxed up. They are "making every effort to have started dispatching rewards in August," which is nicely worded to give them a lot of wiggle room ( :D ), and sending everything by courier so no more then 3 to 7 days for RoW delivery from ship date. They're promising more updates as packing and shipping progresses.

Also some more videos with the Beasts of War guys are in the works, and we'll probably get lots of pictures and gameplay spoilers from the was-going-to-be-the-launch-event in Cardiff this weekend.

With any luck, we'll be able to do some demo games at the September not-Joshin event!

Wayland's DFC shop page is live: http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/3951-dropfleet-commander

Most interesting to me is the existence of map packs, 12 GBP for 4 full-sized double-sided maps. The maps in the DZC box sets, while pretty, are smaller than 4x4 and thus not great for full-sized games, and the 1x1 card tiles from the scenery packs they put out, while also pretty, tend to slide around a lot in play, so this seems a nice, affordable idea. Also the fact that, in addition to the starter boxes with a mix of cruisers and frigates, they'll have boxes of just cruisers and just frigates for more-targeted fleet expansion is nice.

I've also, sadly for me, recalled a paint scheme which may just force me to collect PHR, heh.

(That's a Taiidan ship from the excellent game Homeworld, for those who don't know it. A simple but striking scheme in the vein of Chris Foss, with different patterns of stripes on different ships.)

Yellow I've learned how to do from my Epic Eldar, and I can probably manage red stripes without driving myself completely insane. So, yeah.

*musing* ah, Homeworld. It's been a while. Maybe I should play it again, just to...

*slapleft, slapright* BAD DAVE! BAD DAVE! NO! NO MORE POOTER GAMES!

:(

Fine, fine. But that picture is pretty, and makes me realise I have no idea how I plan to paint my UCM. Which I am totally going to do. Totally... :?
