NOVA open previews and reveals

Just a whole mess of stuff! I'm too lazy just now to put pictures in-line in this post, so go ahead and clicky the linky, but:

-Pics of the Ork speed freeks game, which looks after all to include two buggies and 4 bikes. Also a game I guess, and with the way GW has been going lately, who knows? It might even be worthwhile as a game in its own right.

-An Ork warboss on a battle trike for 40K, for a speed freeks HQ unit.

-A preview of the Ork codex, to wit - the stratagem in Chapter Approved that let 6's hit automatically and also generate new hits is no longer a stratagem, but instead an army-wide rule that's always on. Dakka dakka dakka!

-Some renders of the SoB heads, which look very SoB-ish, so that's good I guess.

-Preview of the contents of the new Shadespire core set - nighthaunts and stormcast evocators, both of which look pretty dope. Plus it adds magic rules, which could be cool.

-An announcement for a 40K-flavored Warhammer Quest game. No models or anything yet, but people do seem to like the new WHQ, so that could be good as well.

-Also some stuff for the Middle-Earth battle game, some webcomics, the character knight being released, that sort of thing.

All of the above seems like good news to me. Less happy with their FW exchange rate, but meh it's not like I was buying anything from FW anyway. Statutory gripe aside, yeah - they're doing areet recently.

The FW "Pay in your own currency for convenience" thing is a blatant money gouging scheme presented in a Clark Kent level of disguise as being something good for the customer.
For example: Dreadnought Arm - 10 GBP inc. VAT
For my convenience I can (must) pay 1910 Yen. Assuming that they aren't charging VAT on international sales (they always used to, even though they shouldn't), thats 8.33GBP, or 1200 Yen at current rates.
That's a mark up of over 50%! My credit card provider only charges 2.5% for foreign currency transactions and I think that is a rip off.

Now, 'Prim,' you may say 'that's only because the exchange rates are so out of wack due to Brexit/Trump/Alien Ghosts etc. You can't blame GW for that.'
I'm not. I'm saying that by allowing all customers to pay in the same currency (British Pounds for example), the customers would be able to make a better decision about when to buy and how much it will cost them. With the Pound being very weak right now, overseas customers would be able to purchase quite easily. But instead we get the right, nay the privilege to pay them an extra 50%. I would imagine that were the exchange rates ever to move back in favour of the pound, that GW would also put up it's rates.

GW may have the design studio working overtime. They may have figured out that their customers are easily confused into spending too much by feelings of nostalgia. They may have a Twitter/Facebook/Youtube/My Space channel now.
But they are still the same corporation, they've just hidden it behind a pleasant facade.

Or maybe this is just a teeny, tiny calculation error and the people who run the company really are the generous, caring and considerate group of hobbyists they try to appear to be.

The troll is a cool design though.

Isn't it? :D I may be a fool to give GW money for it, but I'm totally gonna.

I hear you, mate. I actually said pretty much the same thing on their facebook page. Was roundly ignored for my troubles  Not surprising, but it does piss me off something awful.

The troll is nice, though. I think we are all agreed on the troll

Between the increased prices and the change of direction at Forge World (a lot of their HH range and IA minis have gone, to be replaced by spare arms for Necromunda), I am disappointed. I've had ideas for a HH project on the back burner for a while now*, there were always just other things I wanted to do first and not much interest locally. Oh, and GW appear to have dropped the Betrayal at Calth and Burning of Prospero boxed sets without any warning too.
So, if I want to do any HH stuff in the future, it's looking more and more likely that GW/FW won't be supplying me. I'm currently faced with the choice of quickly panic buying any B@C/BoP boxes from independent retailers now, or buying individual squads if I ever get round to this in the future.

Or y'know, I could just burn my army and put a video of it on Youtube! :D

*I mean, I have a basic force of Word Bearers already and parts for an Ultramarines force. But I don't have any of the specialist troops or vehicles, just the contents of the starter sets.

In the interest of being fair to GW, (even if they don't deserve it, grumble grumble), Turn Signals on a Land Raider was a good read back when it first got a Cease and Desist letter.

Those Ork buggies and the bike look awesome as well.

I like the spooky-ghost stuff for AoS/SS, but I think I'd be worried about parts snapping off everytime I looked at the models. They really do show the capabilities of CAD sculpting.

Fair play to GW on the modelling side of things. They keep knocking it out of the park.
