Dropfleet Commander - Scourge battlegroup
A friend's Kickstarter pledge arrived, and we need two starter fleets painted up for demos at a wargames show in less than a fortnight's time, so I volunteeredto do the Scourge:
The complete starter fleet:
Shenlong heavy cruiser:
Ifrit cruiser:
Wyvern cruiser:
Harpy frigates:
Gargoyle strike carriers:
And the Ifrit engaged with a Shaltari Amber cruiser:

Very nice, and impressively similar to the official Hawk paint job. Something I've been wondering: I can see how the colours work, but what's the base coat? Is it greys done zenithaly over a black undercoat, or silvers? And is there much of a gradation in it or is it just a basic top down spray with silver (or grey)?
Regardless of how its done, it looks vera nice

Zenithal? None of that new-fangled mumbo-jumbo here.
Army Painter Plate Mail Silver spray then Nuln Oil all over. Biel-Tan Green and Carroburg Crimson washes - applied together so they were mixed into each other - then dry brushed Plate Mail Metal over the top. No mucking about, bush bash bosh to tabletop standard.
The whole lot took three hours or so. That's why I've painted fifteen spaceships in ten days while you've still not finished that Cryx thingy's leg.

That's more or less how I painted my Scourge Dropzone models, and yeah - dead simple and looks great. Letting the washes mix together on the model is an ace idea, though.

oi! cheeky bugger I'll have you know I've done all 4 legs, as well as two tentacles and a humungous great cannon. I'd've finished the carapace, too, if I wasn't busy with other stuff right now. Yeesh, some folks have no appreciation of fine art. Philistines *eyeroll, eyeroll, eyeroll*

To be fair, I don't have two weans to take care of, and when you do finally finish a miniature, it's better'n mine. I mostly go by the "Red Army" school of miniatures painting; quantity has a quality of its own.

Very nicely done. I do like the idea of simultaneous washes too...
So many games, so little time....
