Don't teach English to Japanese people that do not already have a true basic level of understanding. You are wasting your time and thiers.
That is my advice. I will not take any beginners.
If you are taking about what the bosses want from you.. They want you to say "how high?" when they ask you to jump. as long as you do exactly what your boss asks you to do when they ask you to do it for as long as they ask you to they are really easy to deal with.

Good stuff! but when you say target language... There doesn't seem to be any. By target language do you mean specific grammar points like past progressive tense e.t.c Market leader, well the one in front of me, is very vague when it comes to outcomes and objectives. Its like discuss this, and think about that, but doesnt really focus on any one structure.Primarch wrote: Then get on with the textbook. You DON'T need to do all of the activities and Market Leader gives you a lot to work with. If you have lots of listening tasks, give them time to practice reading them with a partner. If possible get them to read them again but to use their own ideas and information. In a typical class with Market Leader I would expect to cover half a unit.
Have the students do something that will allow them to use the target language/grammar in some way.

Market Leader is primarily a topic based and task orientated.jus wrote:

You could design a lesson using the steps outlined in the webpage above.
A test-teach-test approach http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/knowl ... teach-test using the case study goal.
Is that helpful Jus?

I would say, see what they are like first before you spring the activity on them. In my experience give them some grammar and conversation activities straight from the text book in the first 20 minutes or so. Then move on to general conversation. Many students use their sessions as counseling in English to talk about anything they feel like stressing over or reporting. Current affairs are good as conversation starters.
If you run out of topics, keep the fun activity in the bag for the last 30 minutes so that you have a fall back plan if any real conversation fails to occur. Don't worry if they are quiet. They are tired sometimes.

Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.
