Re: Warhammer 30K
All silliness aside, I agree that producing sprues of this nature (ie not snap-fit) strongly suggest that they are planning to use them for something else down the line. There's a big market for HH stuff, and with the demise of the Hobbit stuff there's a big ol' gap on them showroom shelves. HH does seem the obvious solution. I reckon it'll be board game first, maaaaybe add on supplement, and then rollout of full HH product line (plastic marines in various marks of armour, contemptor variants, tesla tanks and all the rest of it.

Re: Warhammer 30K
You can use all the Eldar books and the Ork book with HH. None of their tech changed very much and they were around at that point in time. Codex Daemons is a part of the rule set (Word Bearers can take them as allies). Crons were around at that point in time in VERY limited numbers, but they were around (A short story makes reference to the Silent King meeting Sanguinious). Tau and Nids weren't around, but you could use them as other aliens the Crusade encountered. Nids = Megarachnids of Murder perhaps? The only books that you really can't use are Chaos Marines and all the Imperial stuff.
I'd like to see FW do more alien stuff too, but it would be FW and therefore unplayably expensive.
I just tallied the points in the boxed set using the HH army lists.
Assuming you can swap enough heavy/special weapons with a friend, you can easily put down over 1200 points of stuff without even trying. With upgrades from the set, you could possibly get close to 1500, though you'd have to pretty much max everything out to get that far. Not bad value really. All the cool toys are still FW only though.
Looks like the Mk.IV tactical set on FW is being phased out....

So, with the exception of Komura san, it looks like no-one else is particularly sold on the idea of 30K?

Re: Warhammer 30K
I enjoy the novels and wouldn't mind playing. As you said, the old armour would still be in use by some veterans in 40k space marine chapters - especially by smaller second founding chapters without a lot of resources e.g. Flesh Tearers? and chapters who have mostly been fighting on the edges of Imperial space - e.g. Carcharodons.Primarch wrote:So, with the exception of Komura san, it looks like no-one else is particularly sold on the idea of 30K?
Re: Warhammer 30K
No reason why the first chapters wouldn't keep the older stuff. After all, the second founding chapters came from the legions as well. The equipment would have been split between them. Plus, the second founding chapters all have different colour schemes from the legions, so you couldn't really use them for 30K. (Well, you could, but at that point, why not just use any old marine minis).

Re: Warhammer 30K
I don't see myself buying a whole new marine army, but I have no qualms about bringing orks against a 30k army and reenacting Ullanor.

Re: Warhammer 30K
According to leaked pictures of the new White Dwarf, Betrayal at Calth will clock in at 21,900 yen. Obviously fairly pricey for a boxed game, but a lot cheaper than buying the FW equivalents. If GW can get more of the FW resin into plastic, it might make 30K a little more affordable.
I own a few of the old school Rhinos, some Mk.IV power armour might look good alongside them...

Re: Warhammer 30K
The Horus Heresy board game arrived yesterday. I'll start construction and paint from this weekend.
The paint style for them will be Ultra marine and Word bearer along with rule book.
