NagoyaHammer 2020 - May 10th - Planning the other day
NagoyaHammer 2020 - May 10th - Planning the other day
Right, so with the 40K day discussion mired in controversy (it's as much of a tradition as the event itself), let's see if we can't argue just as hard about other games.
So, what games are people hoping to play on the second day? I'm happy to put tables to one side and let people have a crack at whatever they would like. At previous events, we have had 40K, Bolt Action, Kill Team, In The Emperor's Name, Black Powder, Underworlds, Blood Bowl and more being played. While I think it would be better to keep 40K to the 40K day, I realise that not everyone can get to the event on both days, so they would like the option to play.
Speaking purely for myself, I hope that players will be willing to put on demo games of different systems and try out new things for themselves. This hobby of ours isn't just 40K after all. Even GW makes a wide range of different games to try.
I think Warcry and Underworlds have both been mentioned in an 'organized tournament' kind of way, which is cool if that is what people want to run. I'm a little wary about doing both though as I think the player base for both games is largely going to be the same group of people. That doesn't mean that both can't be played, just that one or the other as a formal event which people sign up for would be better.
Generally people start packing up by late afternoon on the second day, so while we have the room until 9, I would expect most games to be drawing to a close around 7ish, with dwindling numbers from 5pm onwards.

As far as what I'd like to do, after sending some explorative questions out I'd definitely like to do a "formal" Underworlds tournament, with signing up and commitments to play and prize support and everything. We don't have a lot of local interest, but Champi of the Osaka tournament earlier in the year suggested they could send two or three people with enough advance notice, and if I can get a similar number from the (much larger) Tokyo UW group I'll be more than set.
But, if someone wants to also do WarCry formally, I could find some other venue.

I'm definitely keen to play Underworlds and Warcry, and would happily sign up for an UW tournament. And get hosed.
also, if anybody wants to play magic, I can bring decks for daaaaaaaaays. Or I can bring a whole block and we can draft?
*edit* I realise that logically it'll be impossible to fit all of this in, I'm just throwing ideas out there. Principally, I'm up for an UW tourney, on the assumption that I can make the day at all (no indication to the contrary so far. Only *counts fingers* 5 months to go....)

Do you expect him to use both hands for counting?

Underworlds tournament sounds good. Depending on the length of the day it should be possible to play in that *and* get in a few games/give demos of skirmish games.
I am always up for Warcry but I think it's best in *disorganised* play using the fully random twists, conditions etc. It does have matched play mode but it's unlikely to be as apt for proper tournament play as Underworlds unless the upcoming book rebalances the AoS factions.
Kill Team is good for organised play thanks to Arena, but I don't know how many Arena sets we actually have around. Probably easier just to run demo games for people with the 40k minis they're likely to have anyway.

The Osaka tourney (whose organization I plan to steal / emulate) was 4 matches and basically went from 10 to 5 (including prize-giving time), so there’d be plenty of time for gaming afterwards. :thumbs up emoji:

Ok, so it sounds like ToD will be running an Underworlds tournament then.
As for myself, I'm thinking to run some demo games of Dragon Rampant with a few tweaks to make it easier for first timers. I plan to build up a few forces for it to show off the versatility of the system, and then offer players a choice as to which army they'd like to try. The game is pretty simple and I hope to get some of the play aids done in English and Japanese.

Just gonna throw out Malifaux onto the already long list of things people might wanna play.
GW keeps making really f***ing sexy models for Warcry so I'm honestly tempted to get into it. The new psychic cat is just about to push me over the edge, much like a real cat and a precariously perched glass of water.
@me_in_japan I'd be a little interested in mtg draft or non-competitive edh. If we could get like 4 people that'd be great, otherwise I'd probably prioritize mini-based games. I have 5 edh decks and 1 jank modern deck here, though none have any cards from the past 3 years or so =P
