Overcrowding at Joshin
Re: Overcrowding at Joshin
I'd be happy with another event on a Saturday during the middle of the month. Maybe someone can rent out a community room somewhere for cheap.

More events sounds nice to me, and I'd never argue against finding a bigger location either. Gaming twice a month sounds much more appealing to me (twice as good, actually
)
Gaming only once a month makes me think that all the money and hard work that I put into the hobby just isn't worth it...

This makes heaps of sense to me once a month is never enough.
I will most likely be finding a bigger place in Nagoya on the second Saturday of each months. Price seems to be the key concern right now. finding a cheep place to play is very important if we are going to make this work... any help will be nice...

Re: Overcrowding at Joshin
Thinking about it we have 3 regular games places Nagoya, Yokkaichi and Tsu. I'm happy to hold events simultaneously with the Nagoya day to free up space for you guys. We had Japanese players from Nagoya, Yokkaichi and Kyoto yesterday and we had yakiniku afterward. I agree we should try and play with Japanese players not seperate from them. I know Tsu is too far for some people but if you have a problem of space we can run things simultaneously to the Nagoya day.
I've got nothing planned or booked until Halloween the 30th now but if any of you want to play 40k, fantasy battle, rpg or boardgames give me a shout and I'll book something here or we can play in Yokkaichi at Spevnas. There are three main 40k and fantasy players in Tsu so we can always accommodate.
My vote was just organise more events. Don't split off from each other. If you want a regular group every month you might need a bigger place but it really is hit and miss with numbers. For events down here sometimes we have 7 players sometimes 15 depending on the popularity of the event.
Last time I visited Joshin in February I played a doubles game in the morning and then left at lunch to meet my girlfriend in the afternoon, it worked quite well. I think Kojibear turned up from lunch and got a game in after I left. This works for me and might be a good way forward if you have a day with just too many people, some play in the morning some play in the afternoon.

There are lots of people willing to organize pick up game at their places from time to time. Anyway, don't forget the painting part of this hobby, or the the fact you are in Japan.Gaming only once a month makes me think that all the money and hard work that I put into the hobby just isn't worth it...

Totally agree with Job. It's actually really lucky we have found so many players here in Japan. I actually found it hard to get a game when I visited my GW back in the UK as I told you guys before.
Got an apology finally and a challenge for a battle against the area manager next time I'm home.
Also as I've said before if you are prepared to travel up to an hour or a bit more to either Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya and Mie there is usually a game group going each weekend. It might be worth trying the Japan games workshop website to see the different GW games clubs listed there. That's how I found Phoenix Legion in Kyoto and the Iconoclasm shop in Osaka (Sadly downsized since a few years back and hard to locate now.)
If you guys can get a bigger place it would be awesome for Nagoya gamers. I suppose it all depends on who the regulars are and how often they attend. Those people have priority on the space at the moment in my mind. For example I'll check if there is valid space next time I visit Nagoya. Not wanting to deprive people of games. I think last time Prim was traveling to Yokkaichi and I was going to Nagoya which is insane really as we could have swapped and saved the travel . Either way it was a fun day.

Re: Overcrowding at Joshin
I guess one might ask do we really need to game in Nagoya if we are not living there ? Perhaps we should build up our local events and only get together a few times a year. That way it would be something to look forward to.

Re: Overcrowding at Joshin
i think we should get together as much as we can. It would be lovely if we all lived within 10 mins of each others houses, but we dont. I like being part of a community, and sometimes to get the benefits from it it is necessary to put in some effort: i.e. travel an hour once a month or so to meet the guys and play some games. I mean, lets be honest here. If you could play 40k by yourself, would you? I sure as hell wouldnt. Id still be travelling once a month (when I could) up to joshin to meet my friends.

At the last JKL event we had: Me, Mike the Pike, Ennui, Job, Seb, Frans, Underdweller, Konrad, Kojibear, Asch, ToD and we were lucky that only 3 Japanese guys came along (since there are at least 6 local-ish players) and that not everyone was there all day. Plus Jus was mysteriously absent and FtA couldnt make it. We have a possible NINETEEN players coming along to Joshin where we have tables for 8-10 people to play 1 on 1. Go ahead and run extra events in Ogaki and Tsu, but the fact is, that people shouldnt have to travel for 1 hour each way to get a game in, (some people are doing that just to get to Nagoya) when they have a gaming event close to home. Having events on other days is good for those of us who want to/are allowed to/are able to play more often, but as M_i_J says, its cool to have one day a month to meet up with everyone and have fun.ashmie wrote:I'm happy to hold events simultaneously with the Nagoya day to free up space for you guys.

Who asked you to do that?I will most likely be finding a bigger place in Nagoya on the second Saturday of each months. Price seems to be the key concern right now. finding a cheep place to play is very important if we are going to make this work... any help will be nice...
Apart from a brief mention of keeping costs reasonable, who mentioned anything about money?
How about waiting for everyone (incl. the Japanese guys) to have their say before haring off to book somewhere else?
Some things to think about...
Last weekend's event was good fun but the room was at it's limit in the morning with five (there are usually only 4) gaming tables going. Things were a bit quieter in the afternoon. A total of 14 people played and presumably paid, for a total of 7000 yen.
Nothing was discussed on Sunday because there weren't very many Japanese guys there, most notably Kondou-san was absent.
Even 5 grand would get a nice place all day in the sticks (i.e. not Nagoya) but things might not be so easy or cheap in Nagoya. Plus there are more groups competing for venues etc etc
While some folks have said Saturday might be good, Sunday seems to be a more convenient day for more folks. Anyway, any decision should only be made after at least putting it to a poll and discussion.
While things are growing a pace, we are still a small community and splitting into smaller groups would be rather counter-productive IMHO As well as the actual gaming I think getting together with other like minded folks is half the attraction of these events.
That said, as our group expands, more of us are arranging smaller get-togethers and private games as and when we have time and the opportunity. This is a good thing too.
What the Pike thinks we should do...
One regular 'main' event on the 4th Sunday of the month as we have at the moment. I will abide by the mob (I mean groups' decision
Perhaps a smaller regular event in Nagoya on a Saturday/Sunday if enough people want it.
Semi-regular game events in Yokkaichi, Tsu, Ogaki, Kuwana, Toyohashi as a complement to the main event, preferably on different days to the main gig.
Tons/Tonnes of smaller games when and as we can.
Anyways, that's what the Pike thinks and hopes for.
Please DON'T anyone go and arrange something else before everyone has had their say and folks have done a little research into viable alternatives.
Morituri nolumus mori!
