Yes, I can`t see anything wrong with tossing around some ideas about how to improve our wargaming events. If we really feel like like battles/tournaments are being won in the "list-building" phase (i.e. before a single die is rolled), then ideas like no-spamming highlander lists, or team-tournaments, of build-the-worst-list-and-trade-armies tourneys are all ideas we should pass around. Then, we could just try out whatever most people agree is the best way to run it. But, with no discussion, then nothing will get resolved.

I hate GW (sorry, I can`t put it in a nicer way). But, I still play 40K. I played twice last Sunday and enjoyed two excellent battles with good people. So, I`m not out to destroy 40K (or WFB or Bloodbowl or any of the other great games made by GW - ManOWar!!!). But, to just pretend nothing is wrong won`t solve anything.

Mike The Pike, Anthrax (with Joey and Scott) is coming in December! (in case you didn`t know)

Ogaki being out of the way is much less relative as to why people do not come my guess is that most do not come because they.
1. Cant be bothered with tournaments in the first place.
2. Think they are limited to 40k at an event run in Ogaki.
3 And perhaps most importantly have other plans on there Saturdays.

For me number 1 and 3 are very much SHOGANAI but as for number 2 I really hope people understand that I am now days much more in to WHFB than 40k if only because It is new to me and the way I see it WHFB is more of a root beer and pretzels game.

I do not really think it is as much of a game of skill as it is a game of luck... and like most war games paper rock scissors.

like I said in other posts I will go any where any day but saturday to go and play...

The location is a small part of it, but can be an issue, especially for those who live further away. (e.g. Pikey) As an example, see how many people regularly came to the outrder events you used to run. With the trains in Japan it's not a major issue but on top of other things it may influence people's decisions.
Point 1. Its true that some people dislike tournaments such as the one linked in my 1st post. All Chimera vs All Razorback armies looks lame. For a small scale local event even I dont mind playing if it appears to be a relaxed, fun environment.
Point 2. When you advertise an event as a 40k tournament, it does give that impression y'know.
Point 3. Yeah, this can be a sticking point for some. I am usually busy on saturdays with my wife, but given advance notice I can probably escape for the day.

As I said in the PM I sent you, I think you need to create more awareness of the event by A). Bumping the event thread so that it stays near the top of the forum. B). Reminding people about it. C). Letting people discuss it in a thread and D). Build interest in the game in general by starting a couple of unrelated threads in the relevant section. (e.g. 40k models in the painting section, army lists to critique in the the army list section).

@M_i_J All good points, but Job is right in that 40k is off the radar in the Nagoya area at the moment. Look at the 40k section of the site. It used to be the busiest, but these days the fresh posts are few and far between. Whilst I dont necessarily agree about the cause (I think its just a case of WFB is at an all time high), he is right in that 40k isn't being played/discussed/talked about much these days. At the last Joshin event I saw WFB, Cutlass, Warmachine and some card games (The Space Hulk game I think) being played.

do people really not play 40k anymore just because other people have been griping about GW? I haven't been to nagoya in a dogs age, but when i did, people organised what games would be played beforehand. if the lack of 40k bothers you, can you not just organise a game or two yourself ? thats what ive been doing, as a result of which ive played more 40k in the past coupla weeks than i have in the preceding coupla months. It seems to me that nagoya-ites are not so much not playing 40k as they are binging on fantasy battle. also, one reason the 40k fora have been so quiet is that not very much has happened in the big world of 40k - GW have been pimping WHFB a lot recently with TK and Storm of magic, so there hasnt really been any 40k news worth talking about.

That's how I see it since 8th ed came out every one got on the same footing GW took most of the skill out of the game ( IMHOrcO this made the game more fun) and this is one reason everyone plays it. 40k just got
GKs but only Frans plays them. I had my money set aside for them then GW shafted japan in a way that made it to expencive to buy in one go.

Anyway this thread is really getting old.

Hope some one picks up the TO torch and start oganizing events on Saturdays they can always count on me coming and helping out.

Big cheers to ash for all the events he runs especially the ones he does on Saturdays. Three cheers for anyone organizing anything.

So you're cancelling your other 2 events then?

I wouldn't get all that discouraged. I think your latest event was a casualty of the growth of anti-GW sentiments recently. Oddly, it seemed to have only been aimed at 40k, because the Fantasy guys seem to have stuck by their game. Also there is the fact Shogun Showdown was within a month and a half of Nagoyahammer, and I got the word from some people they've been 40ked out for awhile. ;) I say go for it again when the 40k buzz is back.

In the meantime, the fantasy guys would love to have an event at your place, I'm fairly sure. Would you consider changing one of the events to a campaign tournament?

No more events organized by Admiral Badruck it takes heaps of time and I get at least as many complaints and grief about why things could not be done another way as I get pats on the back. I can play games at my house or have friends over for games more than enough to keep me gaming Saturdays are the only day I have once school starts but I am sure I will have folks in Ogaki that will play me.. on saturdays and like I said I will bend over backwards to support any games that others organize on days I can attend...

and this is the last post I am going to make on the subject..
