I buy EVERY marine. And I actually buy them, models, rule books, the works. I dont just have one army that I proxy, cos that would just look lame and lead to Mike calling me a Band Wagon Jumper.

My Codex marines did very well at Nagoya Hammer. Yay Crimson Fists!

I only played one game, luckily my opponent was Rob's Tau and he only really had infantry. My CF's are geared for killing 4+ save infantry units with lots of heavy bolters and assault cannons, so it wasn't really a fair fight.
The rest of the marine players took a beating, primarily because everyone came prepared to kill marines. No suprise then that the Orks and Nids stomped everyone.

Yeah, I kept the Ork and Nid players apart because they are regular gaming buddies. I didnt want people to trek from all over Japan and play people they can play at home. NagoyaHammer was supposed to be about meeting new people and playing different games.
The upcoming tournament will have players matched up based on how well they do in the first round.

Nid V Orks

that sounds like a very good topic but... This is the Blood Angeles Dex thread...

with out tipping my hand as what I may be bringing to the next tournament the new dex has so many great units..

I am building and Painting my PH Worldeaters I have work out a list that is Mech heavy... of course I am do not have a Storm Raven in the list but what are the Must take units in this dex...

I am thinking that the S-Priests are some of the best units one can take for an Elite choice...

what say you???

Take Death Company! Those guys rock! (and rage).
Seriously though, it's your army, take what you think is cool.

So no help from Prime. :(

What are the good and bad of the Vanguard?

Good 2 attacks and charge on a deep strike ...

bad Price... Price and Price I have a 345 point squad of 10 took Jump packs a power fist 25 points extra power sword 15 and yep 215 for the guys and 100 points for the Packs and on...

is it worth the points ??

215+100+25+15 = 355 points

Vanguard in BA are a little better than their vanilla counterparts because they have red thirst and are a couple of points cheaper. If they land where you want them to and dont scatter (no descent of angels rule for these guys) they can mess up a unit before being shot to death. They have all the benefits and drawbacks of regular Vanguard. They hit a little harder than regular assault marines but die just as easily. at almost 25% of your points (assuming 1500) they are a big investment.

Personally I wouldnt touch them, but thats just because I would put Baals or Speeders into that slot. Paying for specialist assault units in a Blood Angels army seems a bit counterintuitive. You have a load of other stuff that can fulfill the same role without the deepstrike penalties for less points.

E.g. 10 man assault team with attached sanguinary priest would get you a guaranteed 2nd turn charge (vanguard may mishap or just not show up early game), along with furious charge and feel no pain for a lot less. Admittedly you would lose 1 of the power weapons and some attacks, but you would have more points to spend. You would risk taking fire on the way in, but if you hide behind cover you can do it. Also, assault squads get melta guns for popping tanks.

I agree with Primarch somewhat. That is, if you are going mech (lots of vehicles), then there are better choices in this slot. But, if you are going jump pack crazy, then VV do have a place even though they don`t score. You`re right, their biggest problem is their cost. Which is why I`d ask yourself what you hope they will accomplish before you decide to buy-build-paint-field them. If you want them to drop and steam-roll your opponent`s best unit, then you have no option but to beef them up (lots of fists, pws, and inferno pistols) and make an expensive-as-all-get-out unit. But, I seem them more as a disruption unit. You can put them almost anywhere and they can assault (into cover even) when they drop, so I`d use them to assault annoying/small/shooty type units (Biovores, Lootas, Long Fangs, Heavy Weapon Squads, Dark Reapers, etc.) - you know what I mean. And when you look at them that way, you don`t need so many of them. I plan on running just 5-6 of them (possibly two squads in some larger battles) with the sergeant`s already-paid-for fancy power weapon and one powerfist or one thunderhammer. There you go. Five Marines with assault grenades in your face...20 attacks with enough special stuff to put a hurt on power armor even. You even have a fist/hammer and kraks to bust up vehicles if you are facing a particularly mech-heavy army. And if they die? No problem, they don`t score. Suicide is their objective; just die and take as much stuff with them as possible. This set up has a use and is affordable, even at 1500 points...in my opinion. :)
