I agree with Primarch somewhat. That is, if you are going mech (lots of vehicles), then there are better choices in this slot. But, if you are going jump pack crazy, then VV do have a place even though they don`t score. You`re right, their biggest problem is their cost. Which is why I`d ask yourself what you hope they will accomplish before you decide to buy-build-paint-field them. If you want them to drop and steam-roll your opponent`s best unit, then you have no option but to beef them up (lots of fists, pws, and inferno pistols) and make an expensive-as-all-get-out unit. But, I seem them more as a disruption unit. You can put them almost anywhere and they can assault (into cover even) when they drop, so I`d use them to assault annoying/small/shooty type units (Biovores, Lootas, Long Fangs, Heavy Weapon Squads, Dark Reapers, etc.) - you know what I mean. And when you look at them that way, you don`t need so many of them. I plan on running just 5-6 of them (possibly two squads in some larger battles) with the sergeant`s already-paid-for fancy power weapon and one powerfist or one thunderhammer. There you go. Five Marines with assault grenades in your face...20 attacks with enough special stuff to put a hurt on power armor even. You even have a fist/hammer and kraks to bust up vehicles if you are facing a particularly mech-heavy army. And if they die? No problem, they don`t score. Suicide is their objective; just die and take as much stuff with them as possible. This set up has a use and is affordable, even at 1500 points...in my opinion.
