Is this your suggested starting point?? I really need to get back in to shape... at least to get my heart healthy... I guess this is what you are doing... 4 sets of as many as you can do until you can't do anymore. Is that good for someone just starting out?

The one thing you should do if you are concerned about your overrall health is to start doing aerobic excercises. Something like jogging 4-5 times a week at least 30 minutes with resting days in between. I also do cardio along with my strength training 2 days on 1 day off.

Then if you want to increase your muscle I recommend you to do calisthenics like push ups and chin ups.
You don't have to do until failure but it is important to take your training one step further every time. So if you are able to do 20 pushups make sure you do 21 next time.

Many people use weights to increase their muscle mass but I recommend you to start out with calisthenics and when you have built enough overrall body strength start using the weights. Calisthenics are very good because they never isolate muscles but give you a very good overrall workout;

Pushups - Activates your whole chest,front shoulders and triceps.
Chin ups - Whole back especially lats, rear shoulders and biceps

You should have a good pace so maybe jogging home from work is better unless you can get a shower at work? :D

Another good bodyweight exercise is the one legged squat. They are bloody hard to do but worth putting in the effort.

Start by using a chair and squating down to the seated position and then up again. When you can do this comfortably, try using a lower chair or step. Eventually you will be doing them down to the floor and up again. They are also good for your balance too.

They sure are, an excellent excercise for leg strength and balance also called "the pistol".

What is that? A space dwarf? Have never seen them before, is this another "race" in the 40k universe that I wasn't aware of? Don't mind the off topic, I am rater grateful that someone showed me what a 40k squat was, thanks!

Yep, good old Pavel and his bodyweight book is wonderful.

And yes, a Space Dwarf. They were one of the original race from 40K when the game first started but GW killed them off, blamed the Tyranids, and they have been seen on a table for many, many years.
