@badruck. 1500pts cripples eldar. They have no multi purpose units. its very, very hard to build a 1500 pts eldar force that can take all comers. try it sometime, and see what you end up with. Off the top of my head, taking either a seer or an autarch, 2 units of 10 dire avengers (in serpents), 1 unit of 6 jetbikes and a unit of 6 fire dragons in a falcon as critical, must-have units, it always comes down to choosing between reapers, banshees, harlequins or scorpions. You can have two of those units and no more. none of them can afford transport (but you can take one from the avengers if needed.) What would you do?

I am happy to see the 1500 point game come back... in to the picture lot of 1750 and 2000 points going on... 1500 seems like a very fair amount for everyone...

Its mainly due to time constraints as much as anything else. I prefer 2k myself but with time limits on the games, 1500 seems better.

BoLS had an article about the standard points to use in games, http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2010/05/ ... 00pts.html seems they are used to playing 2000 points over there.

i redckon a 1750 game goes faster than a 1500pt game. the extra 250pts usually goes on killiness rather than survivability. For me, its usually reapers, who do nothing but fire their guns once a turn. takes an extra 2 minutes, and means the opposition is down one unit of marines each turn. overall result: faster game

for me the 1500 is more fun because all I take is Kill units the 1750 is where I throw in a fast attack or a land Raider

Or the Admiral takes another 250 points of boyz which takes 10 minutes to move and 5 minutes to shoot and 10 minutes to move into assault adding 25 minutes to each turn.

Tis true, Eldar have trouble with a take-all-comers list. I guess thats the downside of having super-specialist troops that are awesome at killing 1 particular unit type.
Still say shuri-cannon/pulse-las spamming is the way to go....

I didnt start playing eldar so I could have a homogenous army (don't even think about the obvious comment...). If I wanted an army which had loads of the same guys in it Idve taken IG.

Besides, you can spam S6 weapons as much as you like. anything mariney is going to laugh at them from inside their predators and land raiders. There's also the problem that all the eldar heavy weapons are vehicle mounted and therefore very expensive to field (or they come with a unit of guardians, which basically means youre paying 90 points for a shuriken cannon.) The death jester is the only exception, and while he does have his uses, youre generally better off running a unit of harleys in the shooting phase than standing them all still so one guy can pop off 3 shots.

Iam curious, actually - what would you take in a 1500pts eldar list. I know you mentioned the S6spammer, but I feel I have ranted sufficiently at that particular list to have scared it away, for the time being, at least. Any alternatives?

Well, guardians are a bit lame, but I would still take the bikes anyday. T4 3+save, fast, etc etc, they are a great choice. A pair of Prism Cannons would be aces. A couple of walkers with Bright Lances. You dont HAVE to have a suicide dragon squad. Scorpions are good for any kind of scrap. Sure Banshees are better vs MEQ, but scorpions aren't bad all rounders. Space Clowns with fusion pistols are good too. Reapers make a mess out of most stuff, especially if the exarch has that blast weapon.
I'd be tempted to take some support platforms just because I have never seen them used.
And the Avatar is nails.

youve never seen support platforms used because they cost a ridiculous amount of money, and only take up about 30-50 points each. Theyre actually not bad in the game, but financially theyre stupid expensive.

The avatar is about as hard as a doughnut thats been left in a mug of coffee overnight. Any poisoned weapon will muller him, and when faced with a squad of sternguard he goes down faster than a ten dollar hooker on the first shift of the night.

I like the avatar model, though (with a wee bit of dynamism added by re-posing)

you guys are funny neither of you wants to back up an inch... M-I-J the points are set... and Prime right about the 1500 taking less time... just the time it will take you to deploy and extra unit will be an extra 30 minutes...

oh,aye, i have no doubt itll be a 1500 pt tourney, and tbh im fine with that. im just clarifying a coupla points of eldar tactica for the good Primarch. to wit: the poo-ness of avatars and the explanation for the mysterious lack of support platforms in eldar armies.
