Antenociti's Workshop

Post by Primarch » Sat May 07, 2011 12:12 pm

Antenociti's Workshop is a UK company that makes futuristic (though not Grim-dark) SF models. Their latest addition to their range is the Firefly Light Attack Craft

I'm having trouble seeing past the nasty paint job to form an opinion on the model beneath, frankly.

Looks better in the flesh, that. The paint job isn't a million miles from British police colours.

Oh! These are the dudes who made the wheel thing!

A lot of their stuff is really very good. Nice range of high-techy infantry figs as well as some nice chunky jeeps and hovertanks - much more Infinity than 40K.

Fourteen quid? What are you waffling about? :) That Bear vehicle is £17.50, the Tauros is £30.60 and the Tauros Venator six-wheeler is £34.70.

The Bear is longer, higher and wider than a Tauros - probably about the same length as a Venator.

The Bear does look a lot chunkier than the Tauros/Venator. Whilst I like all three models, I would probably use the Bear as a stand in for a Chimera or a Razorback in preference as it doesn't have the lightweight scout-buggy look that the FW models have.
The price isnt bad though, I wonder what the kit is like to work with, given what a PITA the FW kits can be.

Pretty easy, actually. The mould lines on the kit were fairly minimal, and there's nowhere near as much flash as there was on the Venators I built. The windscreen, doors, gun and mudflaps are metal, as are the axles. My one does have some bits of mould rubber inside the resin - they must have detached during moulding, then sunk into the liquid resin. Nothing that affects the casting quality, though.

The Zebu cruiser I got had an odd mould line. On top, it's pristine, but along the bottom there's a massive 1/2 mm misalignment. Not really worth bothering about, though.

I wouldn't use the Bar as a Chimera proxy - not unless you're going for a clown car effect when 10 Guardsmen climb out of it. It is bulkier than a Tauros Venator, but remember, the Venator used by the Elysians is a specially stripped-down lightened model for air insertion; the standard version would likely be bulkier too.
