Really rather spiffy Dark Eldar
There's a chap on CMoN who's been working away on a really frickin ace dark eldar diorama. What I like about it is his use of colour and lightness. It's all very bright and fantasy-esque, but at the same time, completely dark eldar.

Very nice, no doubts. I found the snow base part quite useful.

I've been watching that thread. Gorgeous.me_in_japan wrote:There's a chap on CMoN who's been working away on a really frickin ace dark eldar diorama. What I like about it is his use of colour and lightness. It's all very bright and fantasy-esque, but at the same time, completely dark eldar.

Oooh, very nice. That's the best one you've linked to, Dave.
I think it's because he understands "less is more", and doesn't use fancy techniques just for the sake of it. No ridiculous lighting effects and the metallic effect looks like steel, not polished chrome. The only nitpick is the funky shoulder anatomy of the four-armed Scourge, but that's just nitpicking.

That's just a standard 2 armed 2 winged scourge. He hasnt converted it or anything, so, shoulder anatomy ain't his fault. Anyway, glad y'all like it. He seems a nice chap, too, which helps. Very helpful with explaining how things were done.

Re: Really rather spiffy Dark Eldar
Those are some very pretty Dark Eldar. Especially the scourge. The wings on that thing are amazing.
I concur though, it's nice to see clean, crisp colours on a model without zenithal-OSL-NMM-SNMM-ADD-HSBC etc all over the place.
Who do we know around here who does that?AndrewGPaul wrote:I think it's because he understands "less is more", and doesn't use fancy techniques just for the sake of it. No ridiculous lighting effects and the metallic effect looks like steel, not polished chrome.

Oi! I've done NMM once, and it was on your bloody avatar. I've never done senmm (although I am kinda trying it on Joe). OSL ive only ever done once (again, on your mini) and as for zenithal highlighting, it's hardly a groundbreaking technique. And, btw, it's all over those dark eldar.
Pah!

Re: Really rather spiffy Dark Eldar
There is more coolness just in how he painted the feet of that Scourge than I can even describe. I just about passed out from awe once I got to the wings. One of the (many, many, many) things that struck me was the way he gets his contrasts from warm/cool juxtaposition, not bright complimentary colors. CMON is going to need an "11" ranking.
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

Huh. Neither it is. I thought Jes Goodwin was better than that. Wouldn't have thought he'd be the one to "ah, sod it - just bung another pair of arms on there and stretch a membrane between the fingers, job done.".me_in_japan wrote:That's just a standard 2 armed 2 winged scourge.
