Andrew paints some buildings

Post by AndrewGPaul » Sun Apr 15, 2012 9:29 pm

Since my club is running demo games of West Wind Production's new Empire of the Dead Victoriana game, we've been painting buildings. These are my contribution:

They're all from Sarissa Precision, and are laser-cut MDF. That stuff sucks up paint; the red warehouse on the left took a whole pot, and more, to basecoat it.

very nice. Have you thought if trying a coat of watered down pva before you try to paint them? Might help.

Lovely jubbly. The mdf works perfectly for that kind of facade. I don't suppose they do eldar buildings, no?
Still, thems nice buildings, and the paint job is spot on, too. Job's a good 'un :)

Sarissa do make some very nice buildings.

How is EotD? The last ruleset I got from Westwind (Secrets of the Third Reich) was poorly laid out and featured artwork that was dire to say the least.

Great work, sounds like a fun game. How long did it take to make all of those?

Put some electric lights in the windows to give it that extra lived in look.

That was suggested. :)

On the other hand, apart from using a heck of a lot of paint, the absorbency helped to give a more even coat and to make it dry more quickly.

I haven't played EotD properly yet. We're running demos of the Holmes vs The Ripper introductory rules. They don't strike me as a particularly good intro to the full game, but precisely because they're a little bit too simple, they should make an excellent participation game. The rulebook looks pretty good IMO, and the art looks good to me; not the best, but on a level with the first Malifaux rulebook, for example.

I churned out the big red warehouse and the two white buildings on the right over the weekend. I've still got to do the interiors, which should take a bit more time. I think I'll be rescaling the World Works Games Shellendrake Manor set to do that, and printing some stained glass patterns onto acetate.

Thinking about it, it is gaslight era so putting bright electrics in the buildings might not be the way to go. Perhaps a dim street light or glow would look good.
