No no. The fun in pie eating contests is just the same as NASCAR. It is to see the crashes and disasters. There's always the bucket on hand for the contestants.
So in that spirit I suggest war gamers need more intensity and action to be amused. I suggest fire, alcohol and water. I suggest every ten minute interval is followed by D6 shots of what is on hand (bourbon whiskey vodka acrylic paints). Then it is followed by ingesting the remaining water you used for your brush. I'm unsure how you loop in fire but I thInk it has to be present to satisfy the sophisticated modern mind.
Now I'll sit and watch that.

As this looks to be developing into it's own little (large) discussion, I have moved it to the Painty section for people to debate it properly.

Drinking is not something I am up for. As for 10 model in a row. No that keen because... I like the way my airbrush makes my models look so that I out...still think is could paint an army faster that anyone.ashmie wrote:No no. The fun in pie eating contests is just the same as NASCAR. Would you use an airbrush in a speed painting comp? Surely that's cheating.
I was joking about drinking and the drinking of the paint water of course

Speeding painting comp is simple.
1. One man, one mini. The same mini.
2. Both men have access to the paints, washes, and brushes of their own choosing.
3. Both men paint for a predetermined length of time.
4. When said time is up, a panel of their peers convene to judge which is the best.
These are the words of The Spevna. Heed them.............OR DIE!!!!!!!!!

I think devlinmud mud is way more cheating than an air brush...
The spevenas words are very good I could be keen to do something like that.

Yeah I wouldn't use Devlin Mud either in a speed painting comp. Or an airbrush. One mini and a set amount of time sounds good. I'd be up for that. Lets see if we can get it set up for next year and get some more contestants. Or we could just call the whole thing off.
Cake please.
Sorry we've run out.
So my choices are 'or death'.

Then you're both daft, I say. Devlin mud is a paint. It helps shade things, and/or adds a kinda brownish/greenish/muddy tone to things. It is not the work of the devil, as some folks seem to make out.Yeah I wouldn't use Devlin Mud either in a speed painting comp.
Why would you not use it? Would you use baal red? Would you not, say, use hawk turquoise? Maybe hawks offend you? What makes Devlin mud so bad?
The reason I'd say airbrushing isnt fair is because badruck has one and ash doesnt. Both of you, however, have devlin mud, or at least can mix up an equivalent.
And for what it counts, I would totally use devlin mud in a speed painting contest. And I'd win with it, too.

I think Spevna's ideas are not bad, but I think it would be a bit of a strain to ask models from an organizer at Nagoyahammer, namely Primarch. Anyway, there was no "fire" in this, so I'm still finding it lacking.
I agree with MiJ, that devlin mud and spray guns operate on a different scale. Also if you ban one wash or paint, what is not bannable? Is having the remains of the legendary Chestnut Wash or the next best paint or wash? After all, aren't you being judged on the model you can produce, not on the methods you arrive at them? (Kudos if you can produce results superior to Devlon Mud without using the said paint, but it seems unjust to take something away from your competitor's palate on your personal feelings about the paint.)
Just on the note of banning things, what would you guys think of pigments? These produce quick results. Also what about non-paint products like varnishes? Probably not enough time, but it could be used. Lastly, what about something like a No. 2 pencil? Quick and fast results for finishing things, but again it isn't paint.

Sounds like we have new duellist for next year. Hooray. And for what it counts, I would totally use devlin mud in a speed painting contest. And I'd win with it, too.
It shouldn't be so complicated really. This was originally sounding like it might be a bit of fun for next year. Now it's sounding laborious and a little petty. So maybe the tools of the trade aren't important. My only thought would be that things like an airbrush and army painter dip that cut down on painting time would go against the point of speed painting to see who can paint the fastest. I was more excited about how many models we could get done in an hour rather than any other factor.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.
