I do not know what to do.... it is an armour 10 open topped hunk of junk if according to fluff no 2 are alike so I am sorry if I have an old model that you cant deal with... I say get over it...   I am not ging you any trouble even though your Hquins had power fists on the model and other wargear that I am not even sure they can get now... but hey..I got over it

I take the real model I get in trouble I take a proxy I get in trouble I take a scratch built I get in trouble... I do not know what to do....
You could buy some of these. They cost 20 quid. thats a good deal less than any eldar tank. If you get some, then people will stop complaining about you proxying/scratch building/using ancient (and not in scale with 40k) models. If you dont like the model, then build one that is the same size in all dimensions. (When I built my land raider, I actually asked Stu to measure one of his for me. I also used templates to keep it as accurate as possible.) Or, if you really dont like the model (dimensions and all), then dont use em in your games. Nobody's gonna force you to use trukks.

By focussing on the need for the trukk in your army (in-game performance) and disregarding the change of size (also in-game performance) you're hitting your opponent twice with one thing. You want to use trukks because they are very useful for getting boyz into combat. You dont like the model (or dont want to pay for it.) You attempt to have your cake and eat it by making a scratch build out of whatever you have handy, with (apparently) very little regard for how this will change its performance in-game. I think this is one of the reasons people accuse you of cheese. We know you're not doing it on purpose, but you are doing it.

Personally, I really like your attitude to scratch building. Variety is very much the spice of life. I'm dead against folks who say "no non-GW minis allowed", but I think it's important to keep personal preferences like fluff, style, and design separate from how something plays in-game. An oft quoted example is that theres no way you could fit 10 marines in a rhino chassis. The question is: why did GW design it that size? Theyve had plenty of chances to re-size it, but they didnt. I suspect the answer is a game-mechanics based one. Changing the physical appearance of a model profoundly affects how it plays in game. This is important to bear in mind when scratch building. Essentially, rather than asking yourself "would I mind if someone put this down in front of me?" (cos the answer would likely be "no" cos youre an easy going kinda guy,) instead ask yourself "would John bitch like a girl if I put this down in front of him?" If you can honestly answer "no" to that question, then you have yourself a winning scratch build.

Oh, and
I am not ging you any trouble even though your Hquins had power fists on the model and other wargear that I am not even sure they can get now... but hey..I got over it
At least my harleys are the right size.

Ok,
As much as I agree that models should be the right size and shape and all that. I was the one who A) built that little old trukk and B) sold it to Rob. If anything, Eric's model was the scratch build/proxy here. Whilst Eldar haven't changed much in size over the years, Orks have. The really old stuff was tiny compared to the current boyz. The trukks have changed a lot too. I have in my collection a load of Rhinos, both old and new. The old ones are 1/2 an inch narrower and almost an inch shorter. The old Land Raiders were much higher and a fair bit shorter.
At the end of the day, Rob was using a real GW mini. We often have a go at him for putting down stuff built from Tamiya kits, polystyrene and whatever he could find under the sofa, but in this case, he was in the right. If someone told you to throw out all your old Eldar models because you could only use the most up to date ones (your support weapons spring to mind) you'd throw a hissy fit.
If Rob wants to use that old trukk at anything I am running, or in any game against me then I dont mind. That should be the bottom end of the size scale though. Any scratch builds or proxies should be no smaller than that one and no bigger than the current GW model.

In summary. There are many reasons to give Rob grief (we only do it cos we love you Rob), this isnt one of them.

Got to agree with Prim here.

I have scratchbuilt all my CSM tanks and they are all based on the old templates (save for one LR). I didn't do it for an advantage, just because I like the look. Some may find that unacceptable. Would it be more acceptable if I had searched through Ebay to buy the actual old school kits?

I am planning on building a SM army and will be proxying every single model from troop to tank. BUT I will be making sure that the non GW minis I use will be at least as big, maybe a cm bigger than what they are being used to represent. I figure that's only sporting as I am actively choosing to use alternatives.

If your stuff is/was made by GW or is based on templates from something GW made, it's kosher.

just so you know MIJ the Gorkamoka Trukk was the truck kit until the new model came out... 4 months before the okr codex came out... I have 2 of the new trucks one is even put together... but I have not had time paint it... and to be honest it is not that much bigger than the old model.... nothing but love to you all but I am not backing down off this one... I know this much the Old model will be fine in a GW event so it is better than tanking my trukk made out of 100 yen cars... it looks better and it plays fair BECAUSE IT IS THE GW MODEL!!!!!!!

It is a fair bit taller though, so its more difficult to hide.

BUT

This is pretty much the argument winner here.

I just do not get it... Ork Truck in the Ork codex reads like this

"because orks are so inventive no two trucks are ever the same"

"event the smallest vehicle can transport a mob of burly boyz to the front line.""

Sounds like MIJ will have to find another reason he can't beat the mean green...
