Re: rethinking fantasy
My new feeling about FB is I like using core units... the new rule set is more based on core units how will this hurt or help most armies...
I think It makes Daemons a great choice as the best units in a Daemon list are the core units... but what about the rest of the old world... what are your thoughts?

Re: rethinking fantasy
Not necessarily Madmiral. IMHO I think horde or semi-horde units will benefit a lot from some of the new changes to unit size/ranks/frontage but it will also make them even more unwieldy. The smaller elite armies should be able to run rings around them, and rightly so, but thanks to certain rule changes will have to think a bit more about how they do it.
Even your beloved Bloodthirster will have a very hard time charging headlong into the front of a block of 50 Clanrats. Even a flank attack is no guarantee anymore. Co-ordinated attacks are now, more than ever, the key.

Re: rethinking fantasy
Mike, the problem isn't the attempt at humor, it's that it is being done again and again everywhere. Gets a bit repetitive after a while if it is all over the place.
As for dwarfs, I fully admit that I'm not fully behind it as I've done this once and repeating myself isn't my idea of fun. As I said, there are lots of things I enjoy about fantasy, more so than 40k, but that comes with a major weakness, I like bits of almost every army out there. Different ideas bounce through my head and great army themes just come up every time I read the fluff. The only two lists that don't speak to me are beastmen (I prefered them when they were part of a united chaos army) and Ogre Kingdoms (never been a fan of ogres). Makes it hard to stick to one army.
This is basically the opposite of 40k as I have only a few armies I'm interested in, namely IG, 'nids, and eldar. IG, is both generic and themed oriented (different worlds), while the other two are generic interest. Heck, the only reason I'm collecting marines is the themed events we're doing (Badab war, 30k).
If you can think of a good way to choose from such a long list of armies, I'm all ears.

Re: rethinking fantasy
Core is going to be important yes, but don't neglect the other units. And demons are expensive almost guaranteeing that any enemy you fight will outnumber you. With most of the demons being T3 in the core choice, a battle of attrition is not in your favor now that they will almost always get to strike you back.Admiral-Badruck wrote:My new feeling about FB is I like using core units... the new rule set is more based on core units how will this hurt or help most armies...

Follow this simple step by step process:Colonel Voss wrote:If you can think of a good way to choose from such a long list of armies, I'm all ears.
1. Which armies do you have enough points and models to field?
2. Play a game with 1 army
3. Play a game with a different army
4. Play a game with a different army
5. Choose 1 that you liked using.
OR you can do what I do:
Buy and use as many armies as you can afford before your game room explodes in a shower of unpainted plastic and metal figures
Seriously though, you're trying to make decisions without anything to base them on. Play the game a few times before you sell, trade, or throw away anything you may want at a later date. Buyer's remorse is a LOT easier to deal with than Seller's remorse.

Re: rethinking fantasy
And who am I to play against and when? I've been trying for ages to get a fantasy game in but always end up with 40k. Even if suddenly I do get to pick up an army and play, we're talking several games which means I probably won't get to start collecting until well into October at the earliest.

Re: rethinking fantasy
Both myself and Badruck have fantasy, so next time you come to Ogaki to play, just say what you'd like us to bring (40k or fantasy) I am happy to play either game. Mike is always up for a game of fantasy if you can make it to nagoya for the last sunday of the month. Some of the Japanese guys play as well. I realise that you're a long way from everywhere though, which is a shame.Colonel Voss wrote:And who am I to play against and when? Re: rethinking fantasy
Prime is right... I have a wife two kids and a full time job as well as church stuff pulling at me... and I get at least 3 games in a month... I don't even have a car... I am always up for some FB .... Bring your FB to Ichinomia this Sunday I will play you there... I know you are going back home for a bit but that aside... you need to make time for your self and time that you can enjoy getting beat or wining...
I am sure you would like the challenge of playing my Daemons... win or lose you will learn from it... I know I will have so much to learn in FB...
If your busy with work find a job that will let you live your life... if your Girl/ Wife wont let you go and play, get her to play... If Out-riding is getting in the way just stop doing it... free advice from an ork... take it with a grain of salt or sugar.
