First game tomorrow in fact.
A little suprised
Re: A little suprised
Having just finished my first read through of the core rules, (still have to go through the terrain and mission rules), I will definitely be playing it.
First game tomorrow in fact.

Re: A little suprised
I was also a bit surprised that there hasn't been more discussion, and more lamentation, of the new rules.
There are a lot of major changes, and normally people hate change. I guess most of the people around here are grown-ups and have seen this sort of thing before. And of course, it's a tabletop game not a computer game, so you can ignore any rules you don't like.
There is a lot to absorb, and I've been waiting to get my hands on a real copy of the rules before I really start erasing the old rules from my brain. Also, I've been painting.
Still, I'm keeping an eager eye on the discussion.
Let us know how your game goes!

Re: A little suprised
I'm less surprised to be honest. Another rule system to learn doesn't exactly fill me with excitement or inspiration. I've made a pact with my hobby finally. I'm going to finish my Flames of War chaps and then move on to the Pike and Shotte army. After that I will have an army for each system I play. Warhammer/40k/FoW/Black Powder/Mordheim/Cutlass/Blood Bowl and Pike and Shotte. In theory I won't need any more games to learn. As for the new edition 40k I'll bring the models and rely on my opponent to enlighten me on any changes. Some of the best games of 40k have been with Satarou sans homebrew rules or Kill Zone in my experience. One think I wont be doing is shelling out any money into the void of 40k. I worked out with all the money and time spent, say 3 to 6 months assembling and painting an army, most of my armies are lucky if they get 1 to 3 games in a year. The 40k army is probably the army that has gamed the most, ironically, in the past 3 years.
Also similar to how MIJ felt about 40k I'm kind of feeling the same towards gaming at the moment. The painting of the models is the fun part for me. After that, in my experience it gets a bit messy with squabbles and geek vendettas breaking out in the community to be considered enjoyable or relaxing.
I'm up for a game if anyone is interested let me know via PM from here in. I can book Centre Palace for our game and open it up to other players to bring their own games if needed. I'm taking a backseat from events organising from here in. Please see Moyashimaru about the Halloween extravaganza happening this October. Games of all stripes welcome.
Anyone who is interested in playing me I'm interested in fair play and gentlemanly conduct above will to win and rule exception revision sessions. The fun of the game must come first. I'm it it for laughs these days.
I play Orcs, Wood Elf and Empire for fantasy, Ultramarines 40k, Brits for FoW, Amazon Bloodbowl, Undead and Skaven for Mordheim, Prussia for Black Powder and Westcountry Somerset Royals for Pike and Shotte. So yoroshiku onegaishimasu and happy gaming.

Re: A little suprised
It seems like there was less time than normal between the official announcement and when the rules were released. Maybe less rumors, hype, arguments because of that? I for one pretty much ignored any rumors and told myself I'd wait until I had the book in my hands to decide what I thought. Many of the more casual players I know didn't even realize 6th was coming out. And I imagine the average age of a 40K player keeps going up, so we probably need and want more time to digest the rules before putting models on the board. One other possibility is that GW wrote the rules better than normal so there are less loopholes, but somehow I doubt that
For me, I'm slowly reading the rules and waiting until my son gets here for his summer break so we can practice them together.

I'm with ashmie on this one. Just another edition, seen them come and go. Nothing to be excited about. I'll pick up a paperback rulebook just so I can keep up with these changes. Still love 40K and love my toys.ashmie wrote: Another rule system to learn doesn't exactly fill me with excitement or inspiration. Re: A little suprised
6th edition is THE edition to get back into 40k, and I sing it's praises all the day and all the night. Especially after the abortion of a system that was 5th edition (my opinion) . It IS exciting now, that rules make more sense (my opinion also).
You can't massacre half a squad just for seeing a models hand stick around a corner for example. That stupidity where you spread out wounds so, that the plasma shots all decide to land on one poor schmuck who says "oh I love to die by plasma," is changed, thank goodness. And you can choose to fail a morale Check if you are in combat with a foe you can't kill, and not just stand there like a idiot as a dreadnought buggers you to death with a rotating claw fist.
And if you are feeling particularly nice, you might even consider forgiving mat ward, since codex blood angels has been reconfiged to be much less cheesy now in 6th and balance has returned to the universe. I think it might actually be a good game now, I don't know, I haven't tried it yet, but heck I'm going to enjoy 6th much more than 5th, and thats for a certainty.
If you aren't excited by 6th edition, it's probably because you havent read it.

What the Nehek is wrong eldar? I'd play 'em if I hadn't sold 'em. Try them out, they might do well. Or play nurgel marine.
Re: A little suprised
True, haven't read it yet. I have read and played editions 1-5 and enjoyed them all. 40K is like ice cream. I love ice cream. I'll always eat ice cream. I just don't get excited when they change the package it comes in. But I'll buy it and eat it, because it's yummy.jus wrote:
