You know that that's the whole premise of the December event, right?Konrad wrote:Gargants are dead easy to scatch build. Plastic easter eggs or capsule toy capsules for the body, add bits and voila! Or I should say WAAAAAGLAAAAARGH! I tinkered with epic back in 1st edition. But with so many games and so little time, I doubt I'd ever play again unless TOD lent me an army for an afternoon.

Re: The Thread Where Dave Puts Pictures of His Epic Stuff
Anyway, pictures!
This post's theme: Ancient Enemies (DUN DUN DUN!)
First up, dem skinny Eldar:

That's 2 Guardian Warhosts - one mounted in Wave Serpents, one with some extra attachments deploying through a wraithgate - an Aspect Warrior Warhost, a troupe of Rangers and another of Falcon-variants, a formation of 2 Scorpions and another of 2 Revenants. The keywords for Epic Eldar are pretty much the same as for 40K: Speedy, Fragile, Specialized. You've got units that are good at shooting, and units that are good at an up-close assault, and never the twain shall meet. (Well, the guardians try, but as they're not really great at anything it's not much of a trade-off).
Some close-ups:

And then, my finally-finished Necrons:

That's 2 big infantry phalanxes with Warriors, Immortals and Pariahs with Tomb Spyders in support, 3 formations each of 2 Monoliths and 2 Obelisks, a Pylon and an Aeonic Orb, plus a tomb complex as a back-up teleportation point.
Dang if they didn't turn out OK - props to Prim for the idea of finding crystally things for the Monoliths and Obelisks - I found green rhinestone things at Tokyu Hands, but unpainted they looked like, well, green rhinestones, so I painted 'em. I still haven't played a game with these guys, so they're a kind of a wild card, but again they model (5ed) 40K Necrons quite well. Slow, hard to kill, infantry have powerful short-ranged shooting, vehicles are hard as nails. They have the interesting (I actually don't really know if it would be a good interesting or bad interesting) option of having every single unit but that big war engine start off off-board and teleport in.
Forbidding Close-Ups:

Next, hordes (Orks & Tyranids)!

I suppose someone who only knew larger scales would think 28mm was cute, too.jus wrote:They're so CUTE!!
Anyhoo, hordes. First off is Tyranids - I think these are the first pics I've posted of them as an army, all based up and purty.

That's 2 big gaunt-based swarms - one with exocrines and zoanthropes for some ranged punch, one with haruspexes and, well, lots and lots of gaunts for assaulting. 1 nest swarm, based around an immobile hive node and with dactylis and biovores for some disrupting artillery action, a brute swarm with hive tyrants, carnifexes and malefactors, a harridan with her brood of gargoyles, some lictors and the dominatrix.
Close-ups:

Then the Orks, which I've showed y'all before, but again just to get across the wide variety of army sizes you can get at 3000 points:

One big warband on foot with the warlord, two smaller warbands mounted up, a kult of speed, a blitz brigade of gunwagonz, a mekboyz gunzmob and some fighta-bommas for some enthusiastic-if-not-accurate air support, and a gargant just for good measure.
Close-ups:

I probably should have waited to tomorrow to take pictures - I was sort of losing quality of light here. Ah, well.
Armies of the Imperium to follow, as soon as I get some Stormravens painted up for the Blood Angels...

Well I just snagged the battlewagon/Boyz lot.The Other Dave wrote:I'd check eBay first - Orks had lots of plastic support and came in most of the starter boxes, so there's a lot of them floating around. Like, here's a nice lot of infantry and battlewagons for 11 GBP, ships worldwide. Here's more gunwagonz than you'd likely ever need. There are pretty often much larger lots of random mish-mashes of stuff available, for not much more money.Admiral-Badruck wrote:Where could I get some more Orks if I wanted them.
And actually, the plastic ork infantry set from GW is very affordable.
I now (or soon will) have;
40 stands of boyz,
27 battlewagons
20 Bonebreakers
5 stands of warbikes
8 buggies
Should be enough to get me started

As you keep collecting, you're going to find that - to start at least - you really want as many Boyz stands as possible - fortunately, they're easy to come by. What might be tricky are Nobz and Grotz, which are not quite so easy to find as boyz, but could easily be simulated by just picking out base edges in a different color or something to get started.

I've seen a scattering of nobz but bugger all grotz
I'm figuring on using the boys as lootas, and running a gargant mob but I really need to sit down with the army lists .

Here's the latest iteration of the fan-supported lists, by the way. Generally very good, and based on lots of solid playtesting - I like them all but the Tyranids, which went way overboard on special rules.Spevna wrote:I've seen a scattering of nobz but bugger all grotz

Most Ork warbands have 2 nobz and 2 grotz for every 6 boyz. Loota warbands in gargant bigmobs don't come with the nobz but do need the grotz. Personally, I'd just say screw it and go with different base edge colors if you're having trouble finding them.

That may be the way to go.
Either way, I won't have an army if my own ready for quite som time so I might get lucky and snag some grotz by then .

Re: The Thread Where Dave Puts Pictures of His Epic Stuff
For the Emprah!
(Pictures didn't turn out so good - lots of glare. Bleh.)
First up is the Imperial Guard Armored Regiment - a core consisting of a tank company, an artillery company, and a super-heavy company, supported by a platoon of manticores, a platoon of storm troopers in valkyries, a platoon of salamander scout vehicles, a shadowsword and a thunderbolt squadron.

'At's a lot of armor re-rolls, my friend. Overwhelming artillery barrages and rock-hard tanks. This particular force, with demolishers in the tank company and stormswords for the superheavies, likes to get up-close and personal and *loves* seeing infantry dug-in in defended positions.
This force is also way at the small end of Guard forces. A non-mechanized infantry force like the Death Korps or Baran Siegemasters is going to be looking at replacing the tank company and super-heavy company with as many as 70-80 stands of infantry.
Close-ups:

Then, the Blood Angels. Two tactical detachments and a devastator detachment, all mounted up in land raiders (the Blood Angels love their land raiders), a whole mess of assault marines in a thunderhawk, whirlwinds and thunderbolts in support, with the death company tagging along.

What with all the land raiders (and when I get them painted up, one of those tactical formations will be in storm ravens instead) it's even more elite than your typical marine force, but who can turn down the prospect of that many land raiders? Not me, that's for sure.
Close-ups:

And finally, the Adeptus Mechanicus Planetary Defense Force, mostly a chance for me to field some odd bits and bobs I have kicking around like the ordinatus and the knights. Three demi-companies of skitarii (cybernetically-modified thralls, more elite than regular guard), two set up defensively on foot with hydras in support and one mounted up in chimedons (up-gunned chimeras with less carrying capacity), a unit of 6 and a unit of 3 knights, the ordinatus armageddon with its ICBMs and 3 heavy knights with huge guns.

It's fairly similar to the guard force, actually, but a lot more defensively-oriented with its very slow war engines and lots of infantry on foot.
Close-ups:

And that's that! All 9 armies I'm capable of fielding simultaneously, all 3000 points.
