Making "throw the book at him" a legitimate threat WFB tourney organisers can make.Mike the Pike wrote:One benefit of the big book not mentioned on the GW site is that it can double as both a shield (effective against small arms ammunition up to 9mm) and a handy melee weapon (If I hit you with it you aren't going to be getting back up again).

Just carrying that thing around will give you muscles all over. The old hardback book was big, this one is supposed to be gi-normous.Admiral-Badruck wrote:I guess it can be an exercise tool as well

Re: Look what Kuroneko just delivered
I got mine the day before it "came out". It is gi-normous and gargantuastic as well. Pure speculation, but I was trying to think why GW would want to release such an over-sized, not-actually-practical-for-wargaming tome. My theory is they felt they had to one up Privateer Press. PP now releases great, full-color army book equivalents that blow GW out of the water and PP`s rulebook is great too. I think GW was kind of like, "Okay, so you can make some high quality skinny magazine/books. Match this!!!! You little punks!!!! [Pantera playing in the background]" The book is as much about how vast the Warhammer Fantasy world is as it is about the rules. I think this new massive tome is as much a statement to all other wargaming companies as it is a rulebook. Hmmm...you could really do some damage if you slammed it on someone`s head. I get tired reading it because it`s so friggin` heavy.

I expect there's also a factor of knowing that most gamers will have access to the mini rulebook from the boxed set for actual playing, so the hardback rulebook can be more of an artifact (like Dan says), something to have and look at and soak up and get inspired by, rather than something you actually use when you play the game.

Rumour has it that the 40k 6th ed books will be so big they will require a flatbed lorry and a crane to deliver to your house. Once inside GW takes no responsibility for any damage that may occur from the floor collapsing under the weight of their book.Admiral-Badruck wrote:makes me wonder if the next 40k book will be the size of codex Gigas

We still have a couple of years before they make any changes, so dont start planning what to buy just yet.Admiral-Badruck wrote:if the next 40k box set is as good as Black reach I wll not need to get the big book...
