Heh. Realistically speaking, I'm fairly prepared to find that the rules still aren't quite in a place to make the game interesting enough to pull me back in*, and I'll just have some cool new models to paint. It's fun to be on the hype train, though, I have to admit.

*In particular, there's the thing that always makes me go hmm when I watch people play 40K these days, which is that the table tends to be so jam-packed with models that it doesn't look to be much more than an exercise in making sure unit X is lined up across from enemy unit Y, smashing them into each other, and rolling dice 'til someone dies. The killer question for me is going to be, "Is Nu40K good fun at smaller points games that allow for actual maneuver and tactics? And will people be willing to play at those points levels?"

och, crivvens. Ye've jist bin watching the wrong armies. Eldar whoosh about all over the place - it's all about maneuvering for them. Unit Smash is a good way to lose quickly with the pointy ears...

Probably been watching the wrong game sizes, too, I s'pose. Not that I've been looking *too* carefully over the past few years.

...and the trigger is pulled. I know, I know - quick off the mark. Possibly even jumping the gun, but hey ho I'm excited to be on the hype train, too. Now all I have to do is wait patiently until...oh, probly about the end of august until I actually get a game in  Now, where's that Dropfleet stuff I was half finished...

@miguel - what about someone back home? Can you buy it online from a spanish or UK retailer, get it shipped to a friendly Spaniard, then have them ship it to you? I quite agree with your thoughts on J prices. Bloody ridiculous, and completely unrealistic.

I'm going to Spain in late Summer, I will be buying some GW at more sane prices but I doubt I will get the box.

Fair enough - the box interests me for the nurgle stuff, but if I didn't actually play a faction in the box, there'd be no point in getting it. You'll be able to pick up a rulebook and an Index book for reasonable prices, I'm sure. Firestorm and Element games both ship to Spain, and obvs there'll be Spanish retailers who presumably do a decent discount, too. Best of luck getting what you need :)

I was in Tokyo on the weekend so stopped by the GW store and they had the new set out. New minis are (as you'd expect) bloody nice. All the faction books are available in 日本語 too.

I'm headed to the US for a business trip in mid-July. If anyone wants a rulebook let me know as I plan to order online and have it delivered to a friend's house so I can collect during my trip. Rulebook is US$60 and faction books US$25 - cheaper than buying locally!

The base rules in the box set are really small - eight pages of A5!

Some battle reports are beginning to flow in - the general consensus does seem to be that 40K Mk VIII is cool and good. Smooth and fast in play, pretty well balanced, vehicles are expensive but durable and killy, all that good stuff.

It also would appear that one could, if one wanted, give the rules a spin pretty easily with the information that is out there in the world. Looks like I have about 50 power level / 1000 points worth of marines, and that I like building armies using power level much more than points, heh.
