Inch or Centimeter (Re: Hallo-war)

Post by asch » Tue Sep 14, 2010 10:33 pm

I bought a box of Japanese Island of Blood at Yellow Submarine Nagoya last Thursday. The rumors before release that they use inches and feet in all countries didn't come true. Japanese version (perhaps German, French, etc.) uses centimeters like older versions and 40K. 2 centimeters is Japanese equivalent for 1 inch.
In Hello-war where we hope both Japanese and foreign players will come, there can be disputes about inch or centimeter. So we'd better add "Inch or Centimeter? Anything goes" rules used in the last Golden Week 40K event to the tournament rules.

Thanks Asch, so GW is continuing to confuse international players by changing the measurement systems? Ok.
We'll be using inches as standard in the tournament. Players can use centimeters if both of them agree.

OK. It has come to my mind that I had experienced many eye measurement failures in centimeter battles, but now we can use tape measures anytime during the battle. There would be few problems in Japanese players using inches.

I have the same problem playing in cm. I either guess too high because I am used to playing in inches, or I underestimate because I think cm are smaller than they are. This is one reason why I would like GW to make their rules cm or inches, but not both. It helps international play a lot.

At the moment, most of the NagoyaHammer players are foreigners so inches seems most popular. Hopefully in the future more Japanese players will come along and we will switch to cm as the main measuring system.

It's looking more and more unlikely I can make it for Halo war. My Orc army won't be ready in time for 2000 points and I'm not up to speed on the new rules.
If I suddenly get a burst of creativity before Halloween then I will let you know at least 2 weeks in advance that I'm attending but at this stage it's looking doubtful so I will have to pass.
That weekend is busy for me with kids parties too.
Hopefully next time.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

Ok Ladz

Here is the thing... If you can make it to the Event your really should.. I mean really really should... I do not know if you are aware but there is a lot that goes in to these kinds of events as far as the prep is concerned but not only that there is a lot of money that gets spent along the way.. if you do not have an FB Army or really can't make it then I get it... but if you are just not feeing up to a tournament turn up for the games not the Tournament... I would be at the event if I did not have to work I feel so bad that I cant make it I may even buy a spot just to support the TO. I know that not every one is as keen as I am about these things but if the interest does not pick up then I feel there may not be any more events... right now I hate my job I can't make it to near as many events as I would like to but I tell you right now as MORK is my witness I would be there Tsu Osaka and even Tokyo if I could be there ... If something is keeping you a way like If you do not like something about the way the tournament is being run fair enough... but tell the TO and if he does not make adjustments then you have every right to tell him the reason you will not be making it... But don't let it be about your armies not being ready if you do not have 2000 points then use some base fillers or something like that.. If the paint point bothers you that much send Prime a PM.. If he gets lots of mail then he may change it...

This Event needs 10 people less will just not cut it... I will be there for the last battle even though I have no chance to win I will be there for you Prime

He has even opened up to 40K players.
So guys no excuses show up and play. Before there are no more Nagoya Tournaments.

seconded. Primarch puts a humungous amount of effort into these things. He also spends a lot of money on them. Now some might say that's his decision, nobody makes him do it, but even so, respect to the guy. He's put his money where his mouth is and is really busting his ass to build the hobby and gather folks together (this forum being a case in point). Gaming tourneys are as much about meeting people and having fun as winning the games. (yeah, i know i rabble on about comp being a bad idea and so on, but thats more a hypothetical overal tourney-scene idea. Our own tourney scene is rather different.) Particularly within our group, there's just not enough people to make these events truly "competitive." If your army isnt painted, then fine. Nobody is gonna moan at you for it. If youre missing a coupla key models, then proxy them. If youre a newbie, go along with the intent of getting some experience, rather than winning. Far better to do that than not go at all. tbh, I went to the last naghammer tourney with a rather untried eldar list with the intent of "seeing how it went". I ended up winning. This is not a reflection of my generalship so much as a reflection of the non-competitive nature of these events. In order to get folks to come from farther afield, thereby boosting numbers, we have to try our best as a group to support the events that prim organises. At first, its just gonna be us.

I dont know at the moment if I can come to the Hallowar game or not. I certainly cant play WFB, but if im free, and if someone else brings 40k (or warmachine/mali, for that matter) i shall come along and pay my share, and attempt to make the room look full.
