More off-brand Inner Circle types.
I think that might be enough painting for a little while.

I haven't touched a model in about two months. Yes, two months. Now I have 3 weeks off so I decided top paint my 40k army. I got to this point when I realised I don't have the basing material I need, any flesh tones for the characters or several highlighting colours. Still, for me, this was a good morning. This is my take on the Iron Ravens paint scheme - but I wanted it a little more 'grimdark'

@All - Nice work guys.
@Konrad - So that's why you've been learning demon summoning spells?

@Ballonacorn - looking good!
I've been going anti-grimdark and painted up the test model for my Khagra's Ravagers in what turned out a pretty clean, colorful scheme, for chaos warriors anyway:

I'm sort of edging up on "the very minimum amount of work that still looks more or less like metal" on the axe head
but then that's basically my MO for painting in general. (As usual for my Underworlds output, all Contrast except for the NMM highlights on the steel and gold.)

Re: What did you do today.
My painting is still in the experiential stage and I am at present a little slow. It took me all morning to get a 5 man squad to the level in the picture. I wanted them a little more grimdark as l love the coIour scheme but I don't like 'shiny metal' looking minis. That being said they are too dark for me and need some highlighting.The Other Dave wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 11:10 pm@Ballonacorn - looking good!

"the very minimum amount of work that still looks more or less like metal" is something I would like to achieve as well. I would love to be able to paint a weapon like that axe.

So you don't want shiny metal, but you don't want it looking dark either.Balloonacorn wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 2:17 am

I'd suggest painting in the joints a little (elbows, wrists, back of the knees etc) with either black or a dark grey. This will help break up the metal areas after the highlight.
A little weathering can also help to offset the shiny look. Use a dark colour and a torn up bit of sponge to produce a chipping effect, or just throw on some weathering powder to really knock the shiny effect down a level or two.
