Re: What to bring?
I do not mean to break up your little conversation. But I would sure love to live in a place where there could be tournaments that people would show up to... I may have to move... Any suggestions? I here Poland is a nice place... How hard would it be to immigrate to the EU as an American?

Re: What to bring?
The 40k revival in Sweden since 5th edition have been astonishing. I started playing again two years ago, then it was only a few tournaments each year. Now we have at least one every month. Warmachine has lost a lot of players to 40k, WHFB has lost a few.
40k has a rather competitive climate and I think this is very good. From what I have read in this forum people are not so found of competitve games. I am of a completly different oppinion, a competitive game is not opposing a friendly. When you get the competitivness correct (with komp, restrictions, terrain and/or missions) the non-competitive players will enjoy the game as much.

I came here to meet a girl 3 years ago and we got married.frans wrote:How did you end up in Nagoya?
Actually I was a little bit worried before I started playing 40k again that if I ever go back to Sweden, I wondered will there be anyone who still plays 40k. Looking around on the internet I got the impression that 40k was kinda getting less popular. But that is good news Frans, I am happy that 40k is gaining more ground in our country. Where in Sweden are you from? I am from Helsingborg in Skåne, do you think there is a big 40k community over there? *edit - I can now see in your profile that you are from Linköping, nice cityfrans wrote:The 40k revival in Sweden since 5th edition have been astonishing. Personally, although I don't have any tournament experience here in Japan yet, I think that this gaming community Prim and we all got going here is awesome, sure maybe we don't get like 100 players to the tournaments but it's a really relaxed and nice atmosphere with all cool ppl. I consider myself lucky.Admiral-Badruck wrote:I do not mean to break up your little conversation. Anyway, moving to the EU depends very much on what country you are going to, Sweden right now I guess is one of the countries with the most liberal immigration laws in Europe, where on the other side even though we have a very similiar Scandinavian culture you have Denmark, that have some of the most strict.

LINcon is our large mainstream tournament, Gothcon is actually in Gothenburg. We are hosting a more "grownup" tournament in januari called DEFcon. We are using a venue with pub, so after each day gaming people are having a beer and meeting new friends.Seb wrote: Actually I was a little bit worried before I started playing 40k again that if I ever go back to Sweden, I wondered will there be anyone who still plays 40k. A few years ago the only tournament within 1h drive was LINcon once a year. Now we are arranging 2 large, ~5 small(16 players), 4 large in close cities. I am not completely sure how much smaller tournament there is in Skåne, but there is a few larger.
If you want to read up on the swedish 40k the webplace to go is http://svenska40k.se/. The swedish FAQ, komp, upcoming tournament a.s.o.
I am originally from Arboga, however my wife has grown up in Kristianstad. She has lived in Nagoya almost 2 month now.

It seems like you have a lot more players back home. Warhammer in Japan is still fairly small, with half of the players being from overseas. I guess it is better in Tokyo since they have actual Games Workshop stores there to attract new players, but the gaming scene in Nagoya is growing little by little.

Re: What to bring?
I really thing we could go either way... If GW put a store in Naogya that would help or if there was a Store that Supported the hobby in Nagoya that would help too... I have heard tell of a place in Nagoya with 3 gaming tables up and running every day of the week but that was about a year ago... who knows now...

Anyway, back on topic, its great to have another player locally (even if only for 1 year or so). If there is any help I can give you when you arrive, hobby store locations etc etc, PM me. I live in the middle of Nagoya and have done for 5 years and I'll be happy to show you around.
