Articles on BOLS:

Malifaux = 3
Flames of War = Pages and pages. I don't have that many fingers and toes. :D

Fact: The writers for BoLS like Flames of War more than Malifaux.
I can accept that. I dont usually read any of the BoLS articles unless the topic is related to rumours, but I guess I have seen more FoW articles.

You see, it is possible that amongst different demographics, people have different tastes.
Amongst the people polled by TGN, Malifaux is more popular.
Amongst the people who read BoLS, FoW is more popular.

Also, thinking back to the "other boardgames" thing. If that includes stuff like Chess, Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders etc, its possible that it would be bigger than everything else combined.

Looking at the TGN sales info for May so far, for some reason GW has fallen pretty far from its usual position at the top. In April 40k was 2nd and WFB 3rd. The May sales results so far have 40k 3rd and WFB 6th after Malifaux and Infinity. Wonder why????

So to present any of these figures as any sort of 'fact' would be rather unbecoming then? :D

You still haven't said anything about the Facebook likes. BTW while Battlefront's official page has 1000 likes, the unofficial FOW page has 2800. Four times the number of Malifaux.

You refer again to TGN's polls. But if you read the comments about them (by the board members themselves) many of them are along the lines of ...

This poll represents the TGN network and is self selecting.

I would suggest that the nature of TGN means there will be an eclectic audience for your site that may be representative of non-GW gamers but not GW’s core market. As I understand it, GW’s nearest competitor has a turnover of less than 10% of GW’s 2009-2010 turnover …..

Why not try and poll gamers next time with demographics and perhaps asking the amount people spend?

I agree. The results are always going to favor non-GW results as most people who want GW news will go to Warseer, BoLS, or the like. TTGN just doesn’t cater to that segment of the gaming public so they don’t come here. I’ve always felt TTGN is the gaming snob’s news site. (Not in a bad way! :) ) You can’t get alot of the news here elsewhere, but a LOT of people like to poo-poo on GW.

Not really. It is a fact that more people clicked the button for liking FoW on their facebook page and that more people clicked the button for liking Malifaux on the TGN page. Did they poll everybody who has ever played any wargame ever? No, and nor are they likely too. As an indication of a games popularity they serve their purpose.
I think you're getting confused between "what is true within a pre-set number of restrictions" (e.g. the demographic who respond to polls) and "An absolute undeniable truth of the universe" (e.g. the laws of physics).

:D :D :D

As for the other thing, I thought we were arguing the popularity of our personal favourites, not discussing GW here. Stop trying to confuse the issue.

But people on the site you chose to draw your stats from self-identify as non-fans of GW which is likely to skew the results somewhat.

As for the FOW vs Malifaux thing, you can't seriously believe that in either overall sales or global popularity Malifaux is even close to Flames of War. It's a great game but come on.

Anyways, according to this poll, no-one actually plays Malifaux :D

Going by their data. FOW is 2nd equal with Homebrew rules. 1st is other by a landslide.

Hmmm. So Malifaux is more popular than FoW (TGN) but no-one plays it? (TMP) They must be buying it for the fluff then.
TGN didn't go out of their way to discriminate against GW. The polls were open to everyone, its just that their user-base aren't teenage kids whose mother needs a place to leave them whilst she goes shopping. :D

I think the problem with trying to do a poll which includes all the GW players is that a lot of GW players are only into GW. They dont browse around so much. The folks who are into other games (ie us) are all the jaded old veterans who try dozens of other systems. I think a lot of GW players would be very suprised to find out that there were in fact other types of games to play.
:D :D :D

No worries mate, I know that GW is really number one. But it's fun to imagine that it isn't, even if only for a short while.
